Or both?

Buy the shimano wheels and punish them daily until you lose the first 15kg :D

I would agreed but a set of cheap shimano wheels will cost R4500 +...anyone got a cheap set of second hand shimano 32 spoke wheels...with a 11 pd shimano free hub...or just ride my good old faithful (R2500) trek road bike...until i loose the weight...being fat and wasting money on a super light 7.9 kg fancy bike with all the bells and whistles...dumb move...but we live and learnt ;)

The wheels got sent back from J&J with an invoice to tension the spokes and 2 spare spokes so i would assume there isnt a problem with the wheel...dont think it is a good idea to use these wheels until i loose the weight...I doubt I would have a leg to stand on if the spokes come loose again...however if they do once i loose the weight...then it is gona get real interesting.

Next...steps required to get on track...

Identify what will motivate me to get stuck in and make this happen...

Identify what are my weaknesses..both riding and eating...

Set a few easy goals which must be achieved in a short period of time...

Set a few long term goals...

Start reading my new book...fast after 50...bought for my birthday...

Some motivation...7.9 kg wall feature with all the bells and whistles...which i cant ride until i loose at least 10 kg.

Everything is sorted 100 % like a brand new bike...

Back wheel checked new spoke fitted and tensioned at J&J ...

new tyres...

All the bearings checked...some replaced and lubed...

Di2 firmware upgrade...and gears set...

sram crank changed back to a 53...

Double wrap on the handle bars...

New seat fitted and adjusted...

Brakes set...

Ready and waiting...not even gona take it for a test ride until i drop just below the 100 kg mark...which will take me within the wheel weight limit of 109 kg [emoji3]

...the only catch is as my legs  and backside are turning from fat to muscle the legs are getting loose and the chamois moves.

When they no longer fit at all, you can pass them down to me. :whistling:  ;)

They should fit me at some stage of my journey to become a stud muffin again.

Both strava challenges completed already plus an extra 100 km ride...huge achievement...considering i only did 2 x 100 km rides last year...the first in Jan 2015 which took me half a day with many rest stops.

Last weekend gran fondo completed...this weekend 100 km just because i was so close at 82 km i decided to just ride the little extra...many PRs broken.

After the ride yesterday i experienced 2 issues...one was hectic numbing in the crutch and family jewels and something i have never experienced before numb sensation where my cleats sit under my feet...even my lower back was taking strain...to a point that i had to stop twice.

It must be old age [emoji57]

It's called Hotfoot. Like when you get those sore areas from wearing rugby boots for too long. Essentially pressure on too small an area. A bigger platform and / or stiffer sole helps in this regard.

Good start to the year...faster hell yes...gone from 800/900 and even over 1000 in some segments...down to 6 th fastest time up Davids dash and the fastest person this year on the airport southern blast...for a 50 + old 110 kg person riding an old 2002 model 3 X 9 trek 1000 ally bike...it is quite an achievement for me [emoji3] ... I am sure the fellas are gona go bust the segments...but I am gona enjoy my achievement while I can....now why can't I get the loosing weight thing right [emoji57]. ..

thanks to the guys at kpcc for the social rides...I am learning a lot riding with them...one day I will able to keep up with them [emoji468]????

Following your journey with great interest. A thought from my side, maybe you should stop worrying about the weight issue for now and just carry on with getting fitting and stronger?

I know that you can't exercise your way out of a bad diet but you seem to be getting much more satisfaction from your performance goals...

Voorspoed!

  • 2 weeks later...

Progress again...I finally hit the 50 km/hr mark today around the circuit...solo...yip in that rain...on the donkey [emoji482]

Just to clear it up...not 50 avg (only managed 30 avg in that rain) ...just 50 km/hr on the little computer thingy on the handlebars and only for a short period of time ...a mate tried to "pull" (me drafting him) to 50 a couple weeks ago....but I could only get to 47 km/hr so doing it solo...it was huge for me [emoji3]
