And the other side of ou wa-pad robs you of water bottles...

I even saw a water bottle still in its cage(plastic type). Broke off from all the shaking.

Do you guys think Tubes with slime in will be good enough? how prevalent are punctures?

Punctures are not a major issue. You are more likely to cut a side wall in the wapad, but the riks is no greater than any other 100km dirt road (without duwweltjies) ride.

Cannot remember seeing anyone with a puncture last year. I saw this one idiot with skew handlebars after he took a corner too fast towards the end. Not much blood, but nice lasting evidence that spoke to him in a foreign language under the shower at the rugby field by the finish. His wife also thought it was hilarious. Jip, it was me. Dexter, you are more likely to suffer from sore laughing muscles than multiple punctures. Awesome event. Just stick to the hills and downhills when training.

Put in 2 new tubes with slime and use the old ones as back up.Make sure tyres have enough tread.Did it on worn tyres once ,but did not enjoy the drifting on the corners

43 days to go. 29 in the saddle if I disregard the rest days. Also hunting for a decent wheelset. Three weeks ago I got taken out by 2 dogs. Boerboel and what looks like a Bluff Terrier. (Bluff is the name of my suburb). Fell frikkin hard but managed to fight the dogs off with the bike. Bend wheels, stuffed fork and derailieur, raptured brake linings etc. 24K damage says LBS. Only my road bike is insured and not the MTB. At the time of the incident the owner came out and warned me to never again ride on Marine Drive at 4 am. Apparently it is my own fault the dogs attacked me on a public suburban road. The fact that his dogs jumped the wall is part of animal behaviour when cyclist ride past his property. Owner also threatened to let his other dogs out the back as well, should I not leave straight away. Carried the bike 6km home. Riding salvaged and 2nd hand canvassed parts currently. I'm fine and should get a small claims court date soon. 14 working days have lapsed since I handed him the demand. Some mother's children, I don't know?
