Isn't that the road that comes through the squatter camp on at the N2 ?

Nope I think if I am not mistaken that one comes in from the Western side of Knysna a km or two before the Waterfront.

This bloke has a pretty nice overview of the race with some valuable pointers thrown in.

Shows walking on the Wapad (7:00) and the spot along the route where the missus can meet and greet you (9:00). I really like that Johan's surname.

Got a bit nostalgic when I saw that 16 km downhill that starts at the 23 km mark. (Shame Nunu).

There is more footage available on you tube when you punch in Karoo to coast.

Getting too scared to go to bed at night. What if I do not wake up in time to do the race?

Getting close now.

Best thing about Simola for me is getting close to 80 km/h on a MTB

Got a 58 km/h last year. 2 Bar was all I had in the tyres. Sounds like you slipped 9 bar slicks on at the top of Simola. Hell, that is some serious speed.

K2C I ride at 2.5 to 3 bar. Actually I usually ride about 2.5 bar, gotten used to that. As you get close to 80km/h you just hope it goes OK. I remember one Argus on the road bike we went beyond 80km/h down the M3.

3 bar for me then. Just a bit worried about shaking the fillings from my teeth, negotiating the Rock garden, (going down the other side of die Wapad).

You riding with tubes? 3 bar sounds way too hard. (unless you weigh 120kg+  :whistling: )

I'm anywhere between 82-85kg, rolls on Vittoria Barzo up front, and Vittoria Saguaro at the back. This on 29"

Pressure front = 1.9bar

Pressure back = 2.0bar

No problems anywhere, rocks, sand, hardpack....

Tubeless Crossmarks at 3 bar are quick, but they will be twitchy and rather nervous on the downhills, especially Prince Albert pass. Did that twice before, good fun if you know not to push them too far.

This year I'll be rolling on Chinese rubber. Chaoyang Hornet in front and Zippering at the back. Guess I'll have them at 2.5 because at 3 they are very bouncy.

How do you find the Hornet?

Fitted one to the back (not ridden it yet) for the rest of the rainy season. My Saguaro did in excess of 4000km, it was becoming quite bald.

The grip is phenominal, but remember I am used to Maxxis Skidmarks so your results may vary. Not sure how good they are in the long run, only had then for 1000km now. I have managed to get about 10,000km from a Crossmark.

I send an email to Zandile. She is media relations officer (with a wicked sense of humour) and she says in 2015 there were 4300 people who entered. Total finishers were 3700. Sounds like a high failure rate, but many are no-shows, sick, lame, lazy and feeble excuses etc. Very few actually drop out during the race and even less do not make the cut-off times. Infact, I have yet to hear of the organisers pulling someone off the course. (I could be wrong, off course). Very lekke organisers who run a great event. Very accommodating and friendly crowd in that part of the world. Min Dae.

A lot of people dont ride with their timing chips
