So I've started riding again after a long break. The one thing I've noticed is that my 26er is obsolete?

For the peeps that have done this before, Do I need to upgrade to a 29er for this race (2day) or will I be happy with my 26er?

26 will be fine.. you will enjoy the trails no matter what your wheel size.

there is a saying you don't know what you don't know....once you get a 29er for a race like this you will realise what you been missing - having said that you can do it on 26er, but you will probably be the only one

On a point of order.........the only race here is the Decent.......blerrie springhase!!!!

The other two events are NOT races..........they are events to be enjoyed properly, without bleeding form all orifices just to be Le-Champion.

Even a quick swim in the Tugela can form part of the experience..........hopefully by then the skies have opened it's reservoirs.

If you were doing Sani 2 c you would probably be the only one.

Last year there were still quite a few 26ers at B&B.  Its a slightly more technical route with a slightly different group of riders.

You don't need a 29er for this race.  There are a few stretches of district road where the 29er has an advantage, but otherwise the 26er is perfect.  My dad has both and actually chose the 26er rather.

Just because you are doing the Descent doesn't mean you have to race.  The more people that race ahead the better for me as then I get the singletrack to myself :-)

The Tugela river was a life saver last year.  I just hope its a bit cooler this time around.

For the Cape Town peeps, how are you planning on getting yourselves and your bikes there?

Our bikes are going to go up with the trailer as its just so much easier than flying with them, so we just need to get ourselves from the airport to the destination.  Thinking of just hiring a car as its cheaper than the shuttle (R1300 per rider).

Really? when there is more than one person, it's a race

But agree, all the serious boys do the Decent.

i have done both sani and b&b - you don't need a 29 for either, you are right - would the experience be better on a 29er? In my limited experience yes

We road with a chap for a while on a OneTen 29er. Passed us like we were looking for parking on the downs, but we caught him quick on the ups...

Damn the Stage is a nice bike! That would be my pic! Should be great on the downs and pretty good on the ups!
