I have been using this service for a number of years and sadly have to report that it is no longer what it used to be, so much so that I have gone from singing their praises to logging complaints on Hellopeter. To illustrate just how bad it has become: I placed two international orders last week. One from CRC where I used CRC delivery service which goes through the Post Office on arrival in SA and the other from JensonUSA using Aramex. Both orders were placed on the same day. Interestingly both packages entered SA on 28/04. But here's the killer: the package from CRC (using the Post Office) was delivered to my door on 29/04. The package coming in via Aramex has only been released from customs today (4/05) and with a ton of luck, will be delivered tomorrow (5/05). The logical deduction is that this service is now significantly slower than the Post Office.

By Post office delivered to your door you mean EMS?

Been reading Hellopeter reviews - Lots of complaints about Aramex and global shopper. Hope I get my parcel.

you will get it I'm sure...but don't expect any competence. Used them for the first time recently. Took them 8 days to get it to me. Would have been more if I hadn't phoned and Shouted

I don't mind waiting too much. As long as it gets here intact. But I do see that unfortunately sometimes one has to write a bad review on hellopeter to get their attention. But then also it's mostly the complaints you hear about and not the happy customers.

They do update the tracking about once a day..should help you figure out where your parcel is. It's brilliant in terms of cost...

Thx. USPS delivered my parcel to their NY depot yesterday. It's not showing on my list of Aramex parcels yet, but there is a timezone difference to take into account as well.

So how does it work if you buy something from eBay and it's second hand? What do you do about the certified value or must you lethe person to send a 'receipt' with the package?

As far as I know Aramex still wants a commercial invoice with the info about the price and currency you paid for it. And you might even pay import taxes.

Use the invoice eBay supplies for the sale, that is the certified value and a commercial invoice, print to pdf. Edited by Skylark

Currently my experience of this service has been nothing but shocking from the start.

I'll post a full review when they decide whether or not they have actually lost my brand new Revelation some where between landing it in Jozi and not sending to to Cape Town with my other item (it was a package of 2 things).

Has anybody used AGS and how does VAT work on the order? I want to bring in something from the UK but if I use AGS I have to pay UK VAT. Do I then also pay SA VAT once it lands or only the delivery fee?

Yes I use them, quite often shop on ebay and get delivered locally (USA) then shipped to my door here using ASG.  Works very efficiently.

As soon at your item arrives at their offices, you will receive an email to make payment for shipping which you do online through the ASG website.

You will also be asked to upload an invoice for the parcel.

Once parcel is shipped and cleared customs you will receive another email to make payment for any duties, which again you do through the ASG website.

All correspondence, pictures of parcel, custom clearance documents etc are on the ASG website linked to your shipment which you can download/view.

Once you have made payment for duties & VAT, your parcel will be shipped to you.

Some sellers incl amazon etc will refund the vat if you can prove its coming to Sa, most won't unless you ship with their carriers to your Sa address. Using ASG means you will have a local Uk/us address on your order and hence be charged their vat and then Sa vat/duties when it arrives in Sa.

So I ordered someone off eBay UK, entered my address and off I went, seller contacted me telling me they need a tracking number of some sorts, I'm completely confused isn't it just a matter of him posting my parcel to that address, the rest is with aramex?
