ycowley Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 My first duathlon. Entered the half. Can you please give some advise, e.g. best things to have a transition, what to wear, what to expect, etc. please. Quite excited yet a bit nervous.
Long Wheel Base Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 A towel on the floor to put your shoes/gloves/ Helmut etc etc on. I use 2 pairs of running shoes so I don't have to worry about un doing laces properly after the first run.

Barry Stuart Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 So, my first one done and dusted. I enjoyed it, was pretty damn challenging, especially that second run. My legs felt like they were dragging weights after the bike ride. I felt the course was extremely boring, though. The first run in particular was just a run out into a field and back again. The bike stage had its moments (that beach sand was kaaaaak!) and a couple of fun downhills but was also largely dirt roadie stuff. Are the other venues any better or is it just the nature of the format?

ycowley Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 Loved it and will be back for the next one. The cycle was hard through the beach sand and 1 very rocky climb. The second run was hard as well just because legs were tired.

Barry Stuart Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Interestingly I noticed that a few Full Distance competitors "cheated" on the final run by taking the Half Distance shortcut straight to the finish, probably cutting over 5 minutes off their times. Whilst it's possible some of them took the shortcut by mistake, they must have known that they had made a wrong turn when they suddenly appeared at the finish line but it doesn't seem like any of them reported it. I notified the race office but they didn't show any interest in finding out more.
