From the newsletter received this morning:

"Are you ready for a new challenge? Come and find out by joining us on Sunday 31 January 2016 for an individual time trial / hill climb on ‘Chappies’.

We’ll start near the Chapman’s Peak Hotel in Hout Bay, with the finish near the ticket-checking / turn-around point.

The mats will be open from 05h30-06h30 (the last start will be at 06h30).

There’s no entry fee, but please remember to wear your Racetec chip – no chip, no time. For more information, phone the PPA Office on (021) 671-634- / 671-4070."

Is this for PPA members only or can non-PPA members do this too?

no mention is made of wearing of PPA numbers, and its free. So i reckon you good to go as long as you have a timing chip. But mail them just to be sure.

PPA members.

Apologies, it seems the PPA is much more generous now! And willing to pay for timing non members also!

PPA members.

I've confirmed with the PPA that it's free to ALL, just bring your racetec timing chip along. No need for PPA membership.

Also, as a seeding event, PPA advises that if racetec used the Paarl and Redhill events, they'll likely use the chapman's peak data as well, providing there's sufficient 'uptake'.

Thanks for the follow up

last update:

PPA followed up with racetec, and have confirmed that the Chappies hill climb will be used as a seeding event, but not for the upcoming CT cycle tour this year. That seeding has already been done. (i presume PPA is referring to the previous hill climb events).

Is there a link between your PPA seeding and your seeding you'd receive from the argus say?

I just chatted to the guys at PPA and they said this would be used for your ppa seeding but would not be beneficial to non ppa members? He said I am still welcome to do it.

Similar to how my results disappear off racetec after doing a ppa event

AFAIK yes.

The theory is that PPA members get seeded when doing PPA events, of which the results get used when calculating the Argus and other PPA race seeding. New for this year is non-PPA riders, riding with their racetec chips will get results for the PPA races they enter, but not seeded, as that is the incentive to join PPA.

This applies to Chappies Hillclimb too, non-PPA members will get a result if they ride with their racetec chip, but it wont improve your seeding. For PPA members it could improve your seeding if you do a good time, but as Capricorn has said above not for the Argus 2016 as they have already done the seeding run.

You Cape Town guys are seriously lucky to have PPA. We cant even have our provincial champs organised properly here in Gauteng. I would love to have a hill climb event from time to time here in Joburg.

And then you still get guys down here that bitch and moan about the PPA.

What's that saying about the white bread under your arm?  :whistling:
