Not mentioned on this thread, the 1x10 or 1x11 helps a lot in the mud. This was the original reason why I decided to swap to 1x10. Did Sani2C in the mud three years back, my partner was 1x11 and had no issues. I was 2x10. On Day 2 eventually I could not change gears up front. The derailleur was scraping mud off the tire and depositing on the drivetrain. The front cable too was wrecked in one day, so much mud inside the sleeve.

depending on your frame HT/FS - you can fudge a plastic bottle off cut onto the back of the seat tube - stops muck coming off the rear tyre into the gap between FD and frame -

Just changed my Anthem to 1x 11 with a 32T NW ring on the front and a 11-42 at the back. Weight saving around 0.37kg but I weight 96kg so that is insignificant in my case.

Did the Helderberg trails yesterday. Struggled on the last concrete  bit near the mast but just need to HTFU.

But then I struggled a bit when I converted from 3 x10 to 2 x10. After a while you will get used to it. Time will tell......

I wish I knew how okes keep their bikes this clean, mine is constantly full of mud, dust, pieces of bush, blood and this time there was a Hadida feather stuck to the downtube.

I spent a lot of time cleaning it after the last ride on Saturday - did not want the LBS to charge me extra for a bike wash. Normally it is covered in brown dust and dirt since that is what I ride through on most of my local trails.

Super excited to try it out tomorrow. I use my MTB as commuter bike so on the way to work it is 11km of tar and traffic, afte work I hit Eden trail and some of the cool bits at Coetzenburg on my way back home.

As a skeptic of 1x11 I eventually pulled the trigger. And couldn't be happier absolutely love it's simplicity and crisp changes . That 42 dinner plate is brilliant . And I still put a 34 up front.

Have 1x10 on my other bike with a praxis 11/40 cassette ,and for some reason and maybe some one can explain to me. Why does the 1x11 range and 1x10 range feel very different. Are the ratios that vastly different ?

1x11 and not going back to 2x ...

I think the 'steps' in the 1*11 ratio are just a lot smoother at least to my mind ....

they definitely feel smoother, sometimes 1x10 still not quite the right gear. Not so with 1x11.
