Yeah those hills will be where the race is won and lost. Kinda like the first 8km this Saturday.

 

I'm racing but not VA. Want to get a tandem race under the belt before argus as i'm doing that on the tandem so will be doing this one on the long wheel base.

So I have been cruising a few names on racetec as I also expected a smaller field. Yes I agree it will be smaller but it doesn't seem like all the "big" names are doing SA's as some of them are still entered for R4S. So with still having some strong guys there and a smaller field it might be tougher.

Ride on whatever you want Road or MTB but no separate category, the Carnival has a separate MTB group

Quite a competitive category, the knobblies on tar. Last group to start and many of them want to beat as many roadies as possible.

It's the constant attacks and gutters after the climbs that does most of the damage. Most Vets should be able to get over the climb, but not many can keep the intensity up after the climbs.

Last year was also same weekend as SA's. But still the regulars were there. Thinks VETS SA's during week so they back the weekend.

I have the same feeling, first time I entered Vets since moving from Bloemfontein to Gauteng , and had few months interruption in my cycling.

but first have to see if they will still seed me with Vets in any case since last vets race was in 2013 - two years and only about 5/6 races done on racetec so might start in open in any event if they say I am to slow. Then They make the decision in any case.

is it worth doing the 116km race?

 

for some reason it seems as though a lot of guys i cycle with are moving from the 116 to the 62 km race

Yes it's absolutely worth it to do the 116km if your fit enough to do that distance. Maybe your cycling partners have not been training enough to do the full 116km?

How do you have a seeding below the minimum to enter VETs if you havent raced much?
