so i went to Huddle today for a short ride to beat the rain. they have dropped the entry to R40 which makes more sense. The trails have been cleaned up and looking very neat. also- there is a new section going around the golf course adding some speed and overall distance to exit 1- which is super awesome. makes for a much longer ride and makes the R40 entry more feasible. well done on the extra distance added.

Rode Huddle yesterday and some good maintenance of routes taking place. Extra route around perimeter of golf course adds some distance. Still a great place to ride in the middle of the city, will beat riding on the road anytime even if it costs R40 which is just over the cost of a cuppachino which lasts 10minutes!

Will pop in for afternoon rides here more often this year! Glad it is being maintained, we just need to support it

Yes they do deserve support as it is community based (as far as I understand) and doubt they are making a profit from the MTB track. Would hate for it to close due to lack of support. They have opened up the same area for people to walk their dogs so a bicycle bell is helpful to warn people you are coming.

I was there on the weekend and had a lot of fun on the trails. The table tops trail was super fun, and also the rollercoaster and pump house roof.

Did a night ride at Modderfontein Last night, would be so good if Huddle was open 1 night a week as well, wonder what support there would be for it?

A while back I contacted them via Facebook asking if it would be possible, I didn't get a response and I didn't follow up. I must admit even living like 2kms from the place I haven't been back in a long while - the last flower shape configuration of the trails annoyed me. Maybe I'll swing by over the weekend and check it out.

Would be great if over the summer they could open till say 7 - get out of work and you can still get an hour or more ride out of it. Maybe if they introduced some kind of tag system like the modderfontein squash clubs - you have to pay a membership and you get a tag which lets you in / out outside of normal hours.

The "Flower shape" is probably the same as you rode previously but the added route around entire Golf course is now good, just needs people riding it as a lot of it is on grass and a hard pack path would be better, they might get to do that some time. Yes open later in the evening would be great with one night ride a week.

You can ride there at night. I have done so a few times last year. Not recently but would like to again, as it is convenient and safe and fun. There is a number to whatsapp to contact to ask permission it may even be the Dirt Lab guys but I am not sure. When I did so I got there in the late afternoon after work and rode into the early evening.

We went along to Huddle yesterday and bumped into StuRat who showed us around.

Some of the tracks still need maintenance but the more cyclists who ride there the quicker the Golf Club will realise the benefit of better maintenance.

We think that this trail is more family oriented(suitable)then modderfontein where the entry/exit to the trails involves a steep uphill/downhill section.

Hi Ifly. Was great meeting you guys yesterday. You right it is not hard core and family orientated but still worth the ride if you have limited time and want to get off the road. You amaze me with your fixed gear riding!

The Rollercoaster section was certainly not family oriented.

Single Speeding is not as hard as most people think it is.

Mostly one has to choose to gear for flats, climbing or a compromise. We have gone for compromise (34 oval - 18) which for most riding we have done is okay. The only time I have had to push my SS was up one climb in the 2012 SS race in Winterton.

Did a quickie there this afternoon, missed some of the more water logged loops and rode the new perimeter section. I got some looks from golfers, and my novatec hubs aren't as noisy as Chris kings or Hope Hubs :)

Really enjoyed the perimeter bit, definitely needs some wheels riding it in. Watch out for breeding plovers, they almoat had a go at me. I had a chuckle as I heard a golf ball hit a tree behind me, I stopped and luckily I did as a short while later a golf ball landed about 5m in front of me. When the golf cart came along It was suggested I was in a dangerous spot and I moved along quickly :)

Over the holidays I got in touch with the guy about night rides, he was gonna get back to me after speaking to the grounds man, but today when I asked the guy at the shop what time I had to get out he said there's security there all night and I could stay as long as I want.

Maintenance along the berm alley was a tad pokey, in places you can't make out the trail, but my biggest gripe is signage, riding along and next thing all the signs are facing the other way..I missed a turn somewhere. .. But a nice quickie workout.

Rode Huddle on Saturday morning after not riding there for a while. Main looping section with table top, roller coaster etc still ok but when leaving tried there tried to exit via berm alley and trail close to Club street it seems trail is closed? Has been mowed over, no signs and ended up riding out passed acrobranch. There were lots of walkers and dogs on trails so very dangerous if you are not careful. Very disappointed as it could be an awesome ride. Tried to find management after ride but pro shop staff said they were not available? Who do we need to speak to about this?
