Deliberate hit and run in Cradle - Help ID Culprit

I'm no legal expert, but here is what I would do:

1. Find out where he lives

2. Hire a full cement truck

3. Park outside his driveway and pull out in front of him.

4. Gooi anchors and let him hit the back of me.

5. Open the valve and fill his truck with rapid set concrete.

6. If feeling generous, get him out of the cab before it is permanently sealed.

bwhaaaaaaaaa nothing to drastic :whistling:  :whistling:

Hi there. I found what I think to be the vehicle involved during my Cradle ride this morning. The registration is DH 09 JT GP and I know where they are located and have more details if you would like to contact me.  It seems they have different drivers (perhaps a father and son) but I saw the big round man you described.  They are right near Forum Homini Restaurant (Roots) and they have large green Agri Holding trucks parked next to their Plot. Let me know if you want the exact location details. This same vehicle nearly knocked me off my bike about 18 months ago and I hope you follow this thing through to make them and others understand that cyclists are vulnerable and they cannot play with our lives because we ride in their terrain. I did take a video of the vehicle but the registration number isn't clear. Thanks.

It just amazes me that someone can deliberately do something like this? You KNOW that when car meets bicycle, whoever is on the bicycle will get seriously hurt or killed.

Unless the cyclist is up against a Cherry QQ. In this instance the cyclist should come out unscathed....right?

The only way to deal with this type of issue is to hurt the guy where he will feel it most. Put his ID out and go social media on him if the legal and police process gets you no joy. If he is a repeat offender, please get cradle groups to ride with an action cam on and someone record his behaviour. It's bound to be more of the same. Post the resultant video to the local community pages on twitter et al and add a well reasoned response along the lines of, "this community member behaves callously endangering the lives of many other community members! Calling on everyone to boycott his services (whatever he does) until he apologises formally and commits to behaving responsibly!"

In just the past 2 months we have seen what verbal tirades can do to people's lives! This deserves the same outcome!

tube, I think whats happened over the last few weeks of viral attacks is exactly why this is a bad idea.

UNTIL this "man" has 100% identified as the Donkeyass then yes go wild

Think purple face saga?????

As said above its not like this incident going forward is going to be a positive for cyclists if this is not handled correctly, there are enough cradle drivers out there wanting to take cyclists out

If I lived in the cradle and my wife sent me to buy bread and milk on a Saturday morning, and I had to sit behind group after group of riders 4 abreast over and over, I would likely also develop a hatred for cyclists.

Especially if they act the way those Cycle Lab windgatte do... :whistling:

I stay in Benoni , and was quite keen to take my wife and the tandem out to the cradle for a ride .

However after reading this and the moan about the Lab rats , I think I will just stick to doing the Pomona classic and dodging taxi's on the east rond .......

DIPS I agree, which is why I said, if the legal\police avenue does not get you joy, then only go this route. Ultimately this chap needs to be brought in line. He is clearly doing this over and over and it's a question of time until the next person gets assaulted by his vehicle from his driving style. He seems to be upping the ante too! Others contributing on this thread speak about his close shaves happening last year already. This needs to be pursued, BUT if it does not bring joy, than he needs to be crucified for his behaviour!

Me and my wife cycle there often on a tandem, and feel completely safe. We come across these large peletons, but just let them be and get past us. We find it a lot safer than cycling on the "open" roads (we were almost hit twice)> So, don't be put off by this post. The gripe may be valid, but is really the exception. Cradle is GREAT!

Hi All,

Was out riding with my old man this am in the Cradle - coming back from the caves near the lion park circle.

A Off White Toyota Land Cruiser 79(the really solid bakkie type) came past so close that we both got a fright and and subsequently yelled at the driver.

The driver then slowed down, waiting for us to get close and then slammed on brakes causing my father to ride into the back of him. after this he went round the circle, flipped us the bird and drove off back in the direction he had come from.

Thankfully my father is OK. his shoulder is stiffening up from the impact and has a few bruises, cuts and scrapes.

the helmet did a damn fine job.

Factors to consider:

  • Both my Father(60) and I(28) are seasoned riders, my father being a ex XC world champ and multiple SA champ winning rider. He is also currently recovering from a broken neck.
  • There was zero reason for the Driver to have come that close to us, and he was properly close.
  • Both of us were riding in the yellow riding lane.
  • There was no oncoming traffic and more than enough space for the Driver.
  • We both got a skrik, as such we yelled and threw our arms up in frustration. we did not however throw unnecessary hand signals.
  • When the driver was slowing down and deliberately getting in our way we yelled and i Quote "what the hell are you doing?" - it was after this the Driver deliberately hit the brakes locking up all 4 of his wheels.
  • what he did was entirely deliberate. no questions about that.
  • we have 3x independent eye witnesses who were able to assist us and ready to stand behind us in what happened.
  • we are opening up a hit and run case with the police.
  • we took pictures of the "scene" and of fathers injuries.

What we know:

  • The Number plate of vehicle is DH 00 DL GP or DH 00 GL GP. most likely DL
  • The Driver is a very Large White male dressed in Khaki clothing - i suspect he is a local farmer in the area. Barrel Bellied.

Please can anyone who knows this individual report him?

if anyone has access or is able to get this onto a social media platform to get better traction this will be greatly appreciated!

i am certain i have seen that vehicle or one similar to that in that area.

the driver could have easily killed a rider today. i cannot stand idle on this one. who's to say he won't do it again?

any help will be greatly appreciated!
