Who uses a shim?

They are non-existent locally. You either need to import it or make your own.

I got one from the local dropper post guys in CT. Works perfectly and way better than cutting coke cans. ;)

You find them in the classified.

When I was looking I could not find any locally so I used a beer can (because I drank all the beer first..lol) which worked great but eventually got an aunt to get proper one when she went to the USA.

Beer/soft-drink can is thin steel. It will corrode when water gets in there during washing or a wet ride. May eventually jam the post in place. Remove and clean regularly if you must use this material.

You can buy brass shimstock in a range of thicknesses, cut and roll to suit. It will resist corrosion much better and being softer than steel, less likely to cause scratches. Get it from engineering tool/material suppliers.

Do this!

Cheap and super effective, Just roll a doubled top edge before curving it around post.

Did it for a friend works perfect and he is hard on a bike.

Hi. My post diameter on my sprada 2 is an uncommon 31.6 (only let down of the bike).

The giant dropper post, which I can afford, only comes in 30.9mm. Lbs says they can make a shim for me with a coke can.

Before anyone ask why I don't get a rever post, I'm gonna answer-can't afford 6k for a dropper post.

Any of you guys using a shim? How does it hold up? Any problems? Also if you are using the giant post how often do you have to service it? Any problems?

You should rather buy the reverb.

Priced a Reverb recently? I was quoted just under R9k for a Reverb Stealth 150 x 31.6 recently.

Ended up on a Fox Transfer....works more smoothly than Reverb I have on another bike....and about half the price. New Lyne droppers cost even less but new to market.

Shim is completely viable option, I have seen a post online shipped with shim's to further its adaptability. This provides that its done correctly, Shim has to be long enough (Longer than the min insert marked on post) and have correct thickness.

And have in for service every couple months..at a great expense ;)
