I ask this as the whole "Enduro" vibe took off like the clappers and riders with more money than sense bought into this in a big way.

Some have taken to trail/AM riding and are "upgrading" to the newer shinier bikes for the season, others have realised that they will never ride these bikes close to what they are designed for and are reverting back to 100mm/120mm travel marathon/trail bikes.

I say the above, as there has been a slew of medium to high end AM/Enduro bikes up for sale in the second hand market as of late, with very decent build kits and at very good prices.

There's no check box for my rigid SS...

Perhaps I'll pull into Howick this weekend on my CX bike.

I'll be sure to wear some car guard vest colours, goggles and an empty 20L backpack.

#sorted for #enduro.

I ride everything with my #Downduro bike, and even do some #Upduro and #Trailduro with it as well.

It's my only bike at the moment (hardtail isn't built up) and I don't care that it's slightly more sluggish on the hills, or slightly too much travel for the majority of the trails that I ride.

What I do care about is the fact that it is an absolute BALL when things get rough and rowdy, and it has the capacity to save my sorry ass when things get out of control.

But yes - to answer your question, I reckon the time is ripe for the 2nd hand market for Trail & All Mountain bikes to take off. Mostly thanks to the USD and GBP absolutely shattering any dreams of a new bike purchase. Having said that, anyone who gives up their bike now for a new replacement model, at current pricing, needs to have their head checked...

Makes us proud to see how it's been adopted by the #enduro #trail #irideamtb (who would've guessed!) fraternity...

Seriously though - I think you've got it right. There's enough interest in the genre (albeit a genre that's always been around and has now just been labeled) now to A) have people upgrading/ changing their steeds and B) newly interested riders. So those in category B would be more likely to purchase what category A are palming off in order to achieve a lower barrier to entry to the sport. This was probably also the case with a number of guys using older bikes to try it out and now wanting to upgrade to something that suits their needs better.

To add to your comment Ryan

The average AM bike as of late is light years ahead of what it used to be 5-10 years ago ... .lighter, stiffer, pedal / climb better and more reliable.

Seriously like my Spitty and won't go back to a XC or hardtail now,the bikes now are so forgiving and go up hills pretty bloody good for what they are but then we don't buy them because of their climbing prowess now do we.

n+1

Trail bike, XC bike, SS Rigid bike, Road bike and soon CX bike!

Wouldn't mind selling all and building 130-140mm Steel HT

... exactly the reason for me giving my trusty old Tracer a new  set of wheels. Ready for another 5 years.

I've been watching the classifieds like a hawk. Its tiring I tell you.

Not that there's anything wrong with my #oldduro but I saved up for a #newduro.

Well, saving...With the rand being what it is there's no such thing as a #cheapduro.

So buying new will have to wait. The problem is there is a serious shortage of pre-loved #smallduros out there.

I saw the one in Gauteng. Its a decent price for a mooi bike. Just needs a dropper.

I keep finding myself staring at the Process 134 though.

Diald has it specced to meet a certain price point sure.

But with a 150mm pike and some guides I'd be a happy camper.
