Big Vert @ Steilte

On the 17th of April we're going to be having a shuttle day with a difference at Steilte.

- 11 riders

- Top to Bottom runs (Mast to Kiosk)

- Starting at 8. Ending at 4

There's about 400m of vert between the mast and the kiosk. So in the 8 hours we SHOULD all get about 10 runs in. Pieter Henning and I have been scheming silently about doing an "anti everest" attempt for a while. I.e. Descending the height of Everest in one day. I've done very close to it in Morzine in 2015. Doing so in SA will be a very serious undertaking. This will be a trial run.

We did our Shuttle day at Steilte yesterday with 11 dudes. Well.. We had 1 blown out brake hose and a dislocated shoulder. But Damn it was fun. The weather was perfect and the trails were ridiculous.

Pieter Henning and Dominic Takkas did 10 runs top to bottom. That's over 4km of Vert. That's Alpine territory.

Steilte is sooooooooooo good right now. There are so many options.

Which brings me to my next thought. I'm gonna try set up a mates race/enduro there.

  • Vehicle assisted. So no lung busting climbs
  • 3 runs top to kiosk
  • 3 different tracks
  • Invite only
  • 30 peeps.
  • Any "profits" go straight back into the trails.

Thoughts?

Hell yes!  I've been a bit AWOL lately with a hormonal pregnant wife and a toddler who's realised he has legs to propel him forward, so riding has been limited to our own tracks in Paarl, but this mates race sounds awesome!!!  *If I make the cut* I'll make a plan.

Oh yes. This is the ultimate not what you know but who you know event.

Dammit, so upset we missed this one.  My son would have loved to do the Enduro trails with you guys.  We pitched up there at 4 yesterday, and my son showed me Hurricane, which I rode for the first time.

PS:  He wants to show me Enduro Rocks next, which I am not sure I will be able to handle with my XCO centric steed.

PS PS: I don't think I will be able to handle it with any steed.  I might have to go for Chicken Rocks in stead.

Nee man. You CAN do Enduro rocks on a hardtail. I know, as I did.

If however you keep saying you can't, you won't.
