Jaws677 Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 The father saying the seeing a dog being shot was traumatic has obviously not seen how these dogs kill livestock, it`s way more traumatic. My dad lost 10 of his sheep last year due to a pack of these dogs. They didn't kill one to eat, that just went on a killing spree. City slickers just have no idea ......

Those dogs are the domesticated type...they jumped their yard and chased us. The dogs in question here I have seen on the river / daggapad / greek church sections. They are hunting dogs used by the local to catch small duiker for the pot. They have no home or owner really...they have to hunt to survive. Anything is on the menu for them hence the reason Eric did what he did

nonky Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Yes, it is certainly unpleasant to see a dog being shot, esp for kids. However, the farmer / proprietor has a legal obligation to ensure the safety of patrons - doing nothing in respect of a feral dog would constitute negligence and IF someone got hurt, van gaalens could be held liable for damages. In addition, the reputational risk / implications would be massive - for the business and its employees. Sometimes, unpleasant actions need to be taken to prevent much worse potential future outcomes. The farmer did the right thing.
scotty Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 I hear you scotty, obviously not the most ideal way ito eliminating them but then again...these "dogs" don't come when being called....they are not domesticated animals AT ALL. It was the best solution given the situation.No where in the posts have I seen a comment "ag shame leave the poor doggy alone" as are comment's such as "what if it was your child" and ridiculing them based on the original story. Tragic that the dogs are not there out of choice but out of circumstances, circumstances that we humans created , I'm sure they would much rather their circumstances be different. Madmarc has given an account of what he witnessed and it seems reasonable action was taken if the owner did explain his actions.

Always three sides to a story. Must say Madmarc's is sounding the most realistic now. If the dog was really shot a few metres away from clients etc, where are the 4million photos? This is the modern era. And we know all those Facebookers have a camera/phone on hand to catch those Facebook Gold viral moments? I wouldn't want my daughters having to witness a dog being shot, but it's a whole lot better than picking up the pieces because they got mistaken for a meal when they went to feed the ducks.
