You get idiots and then you get... Jonkers today

So my concern about jonkers being closed due to the jonkers mountain challenge was completely unnecessary. We were able to ride and had a great time. We saw the runners and I really thought that the organisers had the needs of mtbers in mind when planning the route. Very little of the extensive mtb network was used as part of the race.

YET, a group of probably the dumbest of the dumb, also known as lcd scum, decided to take it upon themselves to change the route of the run by messing with the direction markers.

We came across a number of lost runners and couldn't figure it out until I saw a post on Fb about mtbers messing with route.

How dangerous, how selfish. This makes rogue riding look good! I seriously hope the buggers are found and banned from all races, trails and events in the future.

I'm not sure if they have proof it was mtbers. But I got the impression that they are certain that it was.

That's the way witches got burned

More likely scenario: requested closure, got denied, trail markings got messed up, easy to blame the cyclists. Organizer saves a bit of face and get to vent his frustrations about not getting full closure.

I don't understand why people have to spoil things for others it's something I've never understood.

Until there is an exact description of the extent and nature of the 'tampering' (and some solid eye witnesses accounts) I'm putting it down to organizers negligence.

What do you Base this assumption on? I'm not certain that it was mtbers responsible for changing the signs, although there has been mention of photos. But I am 100% sure that the organisers of this event would not fabricate a story like thus just to save face.

I've been riding in Jonkershoek for 10 now. I am yet to see any mtber deface or remove any signage whatsoever. Infact, there seems to be a very good relationship between mtbers and other users at Jonkershoek.

Outright blaming MTBers without evidence is not on. Unsubstantiated posts like that is what creates and feeds the "us and them" divide.

Just mention "tampered with by unknown vandals". Or at least offer an apology.

But I do have to ask - what's up with the 5 odd MTBers riding on a hiking route against the race-flow? (all of them did give way to the runners though)

edit: horrible typos

To be fair, your original accusation is also just an assumption......

The people who did this are knobheads, no doubt about that.

As much as I understand your frustration, perhaps a slightly different approach would have been more well received. The good guys here could be very helpful so rather don't alienate them.

Just my 2c :)

Its an observation at Jonkershoek in particular, why do you ask? Have you had a different experience at Jonkershoek?
