Atapuma reportedly in tears

In the last 700 odd meters he pulled out everything he had to try and hold onto the other three but they just dropped him. In the end he was a few seconds back. At one point I could see him shaking his head in frustration. Damn shame.

Chaves you beauty! All his promised potential really was revealed today. The cream does always rise to the top.

So of the two lightys going for GC that I had my eye on (Chaves and Formolo), one has put up his hand while the other has shown he's not quite up there.

Chaves has now emerged as a genuine 5 star grand tour contender. Formolo will hopefully develop into a 'top 10' kind of rider.

The other youngster I have so much time for - young Tim Wellens - was there in the break again. Does that kid just not know anything else but to attack? Huge heart. Won't ever feature in grand tours except as a breakaway specialist, but watch out for him the Classics.
