Need help for new Bike!

Good day

I have recently started going on a few rides with my girlfriends father. I have developed somewhat of an itch to ride more and am looking to buy a mountain bike.

I am willing to spend about 5000-6000. I am in desperate need of help as I do not even know where to begin?

What is a good entry level bike?

I went to a cycling shop and they suggest I buy a silverback. However, when I stated that 9000 is out of my spending range, the individual said I must save or else I will waste it on a cheaper bike?

Any advice is appreciated.

Are you trying to score brownie points? :w00t:

Ask your future father-in-law for a loan

Check the Hub and listen to the advice

If you can save for the silverback do it

very reliable and great quality

otherwise ask around for names of parts that are durable and long-wearig rather than "light' and 'fast"

then use that to buy a good second hand bike

loads of great deal on the hub :)

Search here are the hub, you will get a good deal. You can filter the classifieds according to your needs and see what crops up.

As far as components, slx is a great start. If you could push the budget up a little bit then that would be great.

Assume you have some apparel and helmet as you have been riding as you need money for that.

Don't overspend too much on the bike though and save some cash for afterwards. You may have to entertain the  father in-law to beers after the races.  (You never stop sucking up)
