stefanx Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Hi everyone Does anyone own the above mentioned wheelset build by EvoBikes? I am in the market for some wheels and heard allot of good things about the Novatec hubs, but don't know how this wheel performs. I buy most of my gear from EvoBikes so recommend most of their products, but don't have any knowledge about these wheels. Any info regarding them would really be appreciated. They also on special at the moment for a really good price so was just wondering. Thanks!
stefanx Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 Here is a link to their website. http://www.evobikes.co.za/wheels/wheelsets-mtb/novatec-frm-custom-build-29er-wheelset.html
AlanD Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Regarding the hubs: I have a set of novatec D771 hubs on my wheels and they have been great. Not a days trouble, roll really well and have a nice sound to them. I'm supper happy with them from a price and performance perspective.
Long Wheel Base Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I can also only comment on the novatec hubs. Not those ones specifically but I have a set of road hubs and I have no complaints.
CdT85 Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 Don`t know the rims will perform, but I have no issue with Novatec hubs. Used them on three of my builds so far. Good engagement, awesome sound and solid as a rock. Survived everything from dirt jumping to street riding to trail riding etc.
Donovan Le Cok Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I bought this wheelset from evobikes. They have been great. Very light for the price.

Lexx Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 The Big Question is? Does the Hub have a bad ass sound..
stefanx Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 The Big Question is? Does the Hub have a bad ass sound.. My friend has one on his ZTR arch and it sounds pretty kief
stefanx Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 Are these tubeless ready rims or does it come with rim tape?
CdT85 Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I had a set of Novatec hubs D541/D542SB built on a wheelset. The front gave no issues whatsoever and I still use it, butter smooth. The rear however, gave endless problems. After 3 months the pawls stopped engaging, had it opened, serviced, regreased. Then the same happened again not 3 weeks later. Had the pawls replaced and it worked for another month before I gave up. The bits are lying in a spares box. Really is a pity since it had a killer angry-bee noise, like a poor man's Chris King. Will not buy Novatec hubs again. Save yourself the hassle of buying twice and just get a set of the tried and tested: Hope. You'll end up buying them anyway. Can't comment on the rims, haven't used them. Had the same set on my dirt jumper / street bike laced into some dartmoor raiders. Lasted me three years, only had to replace the bearings from ware and tare. Survived a lot of hard riding. Still in use with the new owner. Had the same set on my xc bike as well, did at least 1000km on them before I sold the bike with no issues. Sound like you got a bad hub? But to each their own

What type of mtb style do you ride, cross country? 73kg and I race XC and Marathon. I didn't ever actually race XC with these wheels though if I think about it.
