Is Boost the new thing?

I was planning on getting a new Mountain Bike Frame, Had my eye on the PYGA, Rocky Mountain, the TREK Fuel and of cause the New Santa Cruz tallboy 3.

My Current frame is coming to an end but the components are all new.

One issue arose when enquiring about the Trek and the New Santa Cruz, it runs the new Boost hubs, meaning you need new wheels front fork and maybe even a crank with a longer chain line, are we about to cross another threshold into a new spec mountain bikes?

been around a while....think SRAM thought it would have gained bigger traction than it has. Obviously the tech advantage doesnt justify the price tag for lots of people. But sooner or later you will have to give in....nature of the beast

was initiated by Trek, SRAM was just the tech partner.

Cannondale and pyga have shown the industry there's another way to strengthen wheels without a new standard whilst also improving rear triangle stiffness and clearance for the rear wheel.

It will likely be adopted but when an offset crank and rear triangle solves the issue why jump through the extra hoops. The slightly wider hub flange spacing isn't as big an advantage compared to a symmetrical lacing pattern

The obsolescence game is strong with the cycling industry. I'm still rocking a 135mm QR on my 26er Enduro. No tyre clearance issues up to a 2.5 and the wheels are plenty strong. But that's 26 " for you! :-)

Although, Hope's new concept bike features 130mm rear hub.

Seems like the Jones's aren't the only ones you have to try and keep up with.

Don't worry too much. Any new standard will be obsolete a year from release anyways.

Me too on the commi. I'm doing just fine. Havn't put too much thought into axle standard for new bike either. Couldn't care less about boost

Yep, and its pissing people off. A column I read recently blames SRAM in the main. Shimano makes mistakes along the way but hardly ever reinvents the wheel. The rapacious SRAM does anything it can to dominate the market and chase profits - USA to the core...

This really upsets me.  You invest a lot of money into a nice wheelset, just for manufacturers to come and make it obsolete if you want to upgrade to a new frame.

Spare a thought for the dudes that bought their dream 26er about 5-6 years back only to have 29ers show up on the scene.

Must stimulate new bikes sales

You dont have to run boost forks on the TB3 unless you want run the 27.5+ wheels.

My next frame would be a Banshee Spitfire or Rune - just run whatever you like out back by changing the drop outs. That's a bike company I'd like to support..

Marketing BS so they can make more money, bunch of us were talking yesterday and we all think that 26er will make a comeback when all the other avenues have dried up for them to make money.
