On my way to Oak Valley MTB I passed the accident scene. Must've been shortly after the accident as the police was busy putting out the cones and started to close the left lane.

Cyclist right in the middle of the left lane covered with a silver blanket. Bike about 10m further totally wrecked as can be seen on the pics.

Hope all hubbers are safe tonight, please be safe out there guys and girls and RIP fellow cyclist.

luckily the driver wont get away, that road has plenty of cameras; hopefully they were recording.

His name was Alessandro Valpergo according to what I'm seeing being shared on Facebook. Didn't know him but looks like he was well known and loved amongst the Somerset West cycling fraternity.

R.i.p Alessandro:(

Did not even think of that! You are correct, except for the cameras they have those average speed traffic cameras as well.

However, tonight there is a family somewhere that is mourning.

Makes me seriously reconsider to ever get a roadbike and rather stick with the MTB.

Maybe you want to reserve insensitivity to another day and another thread....

Agreed. Prayers of comfort to ALL those he left behind, death is not something we as humans are designed and prepared to deal with,..its a terrible change of direction in a very short space of time.
