I can do 180-200km rides fairly comfortably, but have never done two consecutive long rides; like it seems most of you are doing.

Do you think its important, and should I try and fit sonething like that in over the next 2 weeks or so?

You should be fine if you can do 200km in one go.

My aim was/is to do the 200km on Saturday and then 160 on Sunday to try and replicate the tiredness and fatigue we will experience in the last 2-3 stages. After that would then be 3 weeks of tapering... But my time has now run out due to this weekend...

Bucket list event....

What bikes are you using?

Saw some gravel grinders on the website, is this a good choice?

Riding a Vipa with nice wide 2.35 tires. I wouldn't want to be on anything with tires narrower than 2.1 and some sort of suspension.

It's tough enough as it is already without shaking yourself to pieces and trying to negotiate some of the river drift sand on a thin wheeled racing bike...

About a year or two back there was a European guy who did  it solo on a cyclo cross bike.

He was one of the front runners. (not the winner)

I was sitting freezing at dawn at Goanikontes  when he came past.

Sias, how are those fat Burts running?

What pressures are you using?

Haven't managed to get my hand on a set of ThunderBurts, my LBS is full of BS and has plenty of excuses. I'm running a set of Maxxis Ikon 2.35's and they're going pretty well. I'll test them further this weekend. At this stage they are at 1.9bar.

Mud, last year Dan Craven participated on his cross bike in a two man team. He did quite well, but Costa (his partner) lost some time on the opposition.

100%  Correct.

I forgot about Dan and the cross bike (even though I really like his bike)

My bad.

True!! I hope he can make this year's Dash. Always a treat to have him around. Hope to see him tomorrow at the Dash Warm-up ride.

Don't see his name in the solo or 2-man line-up...
