Just saw the Comrades incident.!

Nearly took out one of the favourites for the ladies title.

Do the motor cycles really need to be that close in order to capture good footage.

Didn't look like media bikes :o

When I was watching the Giro on Saturday. There were three motorbikes for fotographers alone with the leader of the race.  Three around one bike. One would have sufficed.

I do think he did injured her. After that Crash, she didn't look herself. Damn idiots.......

Not condoning the motorbike, but she already didn't look herself before the incident. She was staggering and walking with cramps.

She didn't even realize the bike was there when she moved actors to grab water.

But the bike should know better especially at a water table !!

In the race in Belgium today, they've created extra routes.  So the motorbikes and cars can go off-route, take short-cuts, pass, and then join again.

If it's done right (no crazy re-joining antics), it could be a great step.

I dont understand what is so hard about drones?

You just click on which rider you want to follow, with the GPS tracker already on bike, then say, please go ahead or above or behind rider.

Every 20 minutes you switch the batteries of the drones. They come back to truck following race and switch a battery. If you had 4 you would have a full stream and no motos.

Also, if a drone hits you it wont kill you like a motorbike.

Wonder what a drone would do to a rotor blade of a helicopter?

Its more a Civil Aviation legislative problem than a technical problem. I could build a drone that will fly all day and beyond line of sight but only the military is allowed to operate it.

Drone tech is approaching the problem of live filming for sports events the wrong way. I have solutions but looking for funding

To make it safe for all concerned, you take the top 10 riders in the GC of a grand tour and sit them all on watt bikes for 6 hours, the person with the highest average watts per kilo wins :P

You could put them in a altitude room and play with the altitude as well. :P

IMO it's ridiculous all the bikes, I watched the leading runners at Camperdown 25 km into the race. When the lead runner came through he was on his own a couple of minutes ahead of 2 nd place and had about 6 motorbikes around him. WTF for I don't know... There were motor bikes everywhere even amongst the average joe soap runners where it was much more congested and no space for motorbikes IMO.... I would not be surprised if there were some other incidents involving motorbikes that were not seen on TV

Well just look at how they conduct themselves on the roads and in traffic. Put an engine between some peoples legs and suddenly they think they grew a pair...
