So Im (still) a new rider. I browse here a lot and read etc. I bought a Giant Anthem X 26er a while back after getting awesome advise here I rode a few places but then had a motorcycle fall (yes again) that put me out of action for a while.

Now Im almost ready to get back at it again.

Back then I did consider the 650b's and also more slack bikes for Enduro / trail more than XC also did consider downhill, anyway....ive ridden my Anthem and its actually a lot of fun and light but anyway...

I was thinking that towards the end of the year I want to get a more Enduro bike for trails.

I've nailed it down to 2 or 3 bikes, after reading reviews etc. Giant Trance / Mongoose Teocali Comp and so on.

So when you go here

http://www.mongoose.com/zaf/where-to-buy/

You get a list of shops.

None of them seem to have Mongoose's advertised let alone carry.

Whats up with that?

Ive seen a few Mongoose's and they seem pretty damn decent for the money. Not the best but they are not ridiculously priced either.

Whats up with Mongoose here? People look down on them? Do they not get imported anymore?

Is it a matter of phoning one of those shops (the ones that still exist) and asking what it will be priced should they bring one in?

trance!  the mongoose suspension is designed in a way that they BB moves backwards as the suspension compresses. it feels like someone is tugging on the pedals everytime you land. I had a bootr (downhill version) and it is really not ideal

Mongoose is distributed by Omnico in SA. There have been a huge number of complaints right here on the Hub about Omnico's after sales service.

However, they do have some good specials on their bikes. Check www.obike.co.za

Thanks, had a look and Omnico list it as R24 000. But not good to read about the after sales service.

@no calves thanks for the heads up, so the setup is exactly the same as the Bootr then?

I bought the Mongoose Tyax Expert Hard Tail and over the span of a year I've changed everything except frame, fork and seat post and haven't had any issues and I ride that thing quite aggressively. One such ride resulting in hospital and the bike needing new rims, breaks, very expensive exercise but frame still good.

like the bootr of old. I see the new frames use something similar to a 4bar linkage. iff that is the model i would still go with a trance. it just a superior brand with superion suspension design and geometry. you will pay a little bit more but the amount of more enjoyment it will bring will overshadow that difference

Mongeese are heavy but bombproof. If you're going for an FS model, get a test ride in before you buy because as mentioned the suspension platform is an acquired taste.

I ride an older Teocali Elite. Since Droo serviced my shock and sorted my Pro-Pedal out on my RP2 it is actually not too bad while climbing (It used to climb like a dog). I am enjoying it a LOT more now.

I am sure that there are better bikes out there but I like my 'Goose. There are also bikes out there that are a lot worse....

Personally I don't have any issues with the Freedrive arrangement.
