Achilles Tendon Rupture

I have a total achilles tendon rupture and was operated on this Monday.  The recovery seems very long. Has anyone else been through this.  Any advice?

Only advice from me; don't be too quick to remove your boot, or return to activity... I've seen too many cases where the tendon gets compromised from people that are over eager

My colleague at work had his done April 2015 and still isn't where he was before the incident. But we all recover at different speeds but definitely a long recovery - all the best!

 

His achilles just snapped while dismounting from a shuttle bus and face planted on the pavement. Walked 4 floors in agony and only then realized something is terribly wrong.

 

I had 2 ACLs and 2 iliac artery patches done so I know all about recovery ;(

Advice - follow your surgeons rehab program exactly.. being too hasty will make it take a LOT longer.

Remember JP Dumini doing this in an innocuous field practice.Took him best part of a season to get back and (they) have all the pro support you will ever need.

12 weeks plus rehab on average

Take your bike to a friend or family member house while you are healing.  Just seeing it in this time will make you sad and tempt you to ride sooner.

I also snapped mine on the squash court, funny enough that snap is the reason I'm riding a MTB  and doing multisport today(story for another thread).
Took me 3 months before I set foot on a treadmill to run again. And that was going to Satan(Physio) 3 times a week, starting at 2 weeks after the op. Also like some else said, its different for everyone and depends on how much effort you put into your recovery.

To this day its a little tighter, but it does not hamper any sports with the slight exception of swimming.
