Rant: General etiquette when passing another MTB rider

All this multitasking is ruining my cognitive abilities... Some people can only think 'Greet...Repeat'

Cognitive? Is that like the thing the chain goes on?

Yes but seriously. I don't think of zip when I'm riding. It's just a pity that MTB has become so wordy. I remember it as being the friendly do as you want kind of thing. I remember the first time a heard a person having a fit trying to overtake in a race. I thought he was having a medical issue at first. Funny thing is he swerved around the lady ahead of me waving his fist in the air and then he hit something and when OTB. I went past him he was trying to bash his saddle straight again. I didn't look at him because I was afraid if I did I would get the giggles and he was still really cross onlynnow also covered in grass and dust.

Easy....

Riders climbing the 2 way trail get preference to riders descending,

Always shout STRAVA when a rider dangerously hauls past you,

Proceed to suck wheel until your legs seize,

Forget about the rider who hurt your feelings and enjoy the rest of your ride  :whistling:  :whistling:

Just my 2c  ^_^

It's mostly 'cos the golfists have now come across to the dirty side. All us "locals" are pretty darn chilled. We're not legends in our own bathtime, and tbh we appreciate a good bit of skill so when someone is faster than us it's always good to let them past and try to keep up to see if we can learn anything.

Again, trail dependent. No signage, revert to IMBA standards which give way to ascending rider. But NEVER just assume that because a trail is dual-direction, it's automatic that descending riders yield for ascending riders.

the rest - agreed :)

Did only greet or only 7 greet back?

Ah I see what you did there,...only 7 greeted back, or managed to greet before I could! Stop it now the rant was suppose to be over, now this is really turning into a thread-jacking

it's a non existent complaint in the first place. Why is anybody obliged to greet back JUST because they're on a bicycle? Do you greet people who shop with you? Your local WW must be a veritable goldmine of new friends every time you go in there. "Oh, you need butter, too? How FANTASTIC! I ran out of mine just this morning, ha ha ha"

Seriously, dude. Don't get wound up about it. It really isn't a big deal.

This doesn't sound like much fun. Buy yourself a mtb and go off road dude

This thread was started because MTBers can't act like grown ups..... Type of bicycle isn't the problem. People being dicks is the problem.

If you build your cycling happiness & enjoyment on fellow cyclists greeting you - you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of disappointment.

I truly can't be bothered if someone don't feel like greeting me back

Oh my gosh...why so serious!
