they should show a camera from down looking up at the bottom to grasp the steepness of it..it is crazy steep

last year they had cameras on those jumps and the 2013 they had cameras right at the bottom - where you could see that crazy line that remi took...and it showed it really well

Just seen the RB Highlights - still nothing from up top, but has some big crashes lower down and a few different camera angles. I guess they are stuck having to have the cameras mounted quite high to get as much track in as possible, but that does make it look flatter than it is...

I doubt any camera angle will do that track justice .... From the open section where Blinki crashed onwards it is SO STEEP i have not seen anything like that anywhere in SA in 22 years of racing. ....

That section just after Ratboys first crash where they go over that bridge and they double off it is nuts - the bridge is at a 45deg off camber angle. then the gap they double is a huck to a vertical landing caused by a root holding up the sand behind it. That section and the section belw where the main cameras were where Ratboy crashed a 2nd time were known as the "SKIING section" when we were there as you just had your brakes locked and you couldnt stop. ... and yet the big guns are doubling into those sections.

But i agree that on camera it doesn tlook like much as it is just STEEP - there are lots of roots but these form the drops - so other than that its pretty flowy with no big rock gardens etc. (THANK GOD)

Regarding the cameras - you need to remember that by the time they come out into the open section you see on camera where Blinki fell - you have already been on the bike for 2 minutes ... with the top open section quite a bit higher up on track . ... so to have this in the feed they would need to do extra staggered delayed cameras which would take away from the live feed from the 2nd open section down ....

Also those jumps up top are cool but not spectacular to be truthful .... and also the top of the track to that point is actually pretty mellow (Flat if you compare it with the bottom) ... so 99% of the time the race and action would happen in the bottom 50% which we see on TV .. and thats exactly what we saw ....

I also just wish there was something that could be done to show the true gradient of that track .... but what can you do???? Fish eye lens maybe????

I still can't get my head around this "live" broadcast where you see the guys launch out the start then a few secs then cut to two minutes later!!!!....! So much action missed at the top....

Its amazing how they do it ...

So what happens is that there is the start camera which is filmed, but then delayed based upon predictions made by the UCI, TV and track designers as to how long it will take the riders to reach the first "live feed" camera.

In many instances (MSA, Leogang, Fort Bill, and PMB) the middle portions of the track are also delayed based on the same statistics.

Then all of this is fed into the main feed for a 3 min slot per rider. So its a staggered thing that they get the feed, ... then hold it ... then link to it then to the next one and the next and so on ... until the riders get to within 1 minute from the finish (Generally) where the feed catches up on itself and they go live for real....

Quite remarkable

But as the feed is only 3 min per rider there is no way they can show the whole track (especially when tracks like MSA Fort Bill and Andorra have winning times of 4min plus)

Plus to be honest there isn't that much to see up top. It's quite flat.

There is only 1 steep section/chute that they missed out on up there.

I for one really appreciate the Red Bull 'live' streams. They get the event to us as 'live' as possible and in a single neat package. Would be rad if they showed us the top 5 Junior runs too cos those kids are hauling!

So basically it's a live delayed feed....as opposed to a delayed live feed??

I think it could be both .... hahahaha

Cus it is Live with bits delayed by a minute or 2 ... so its a "live delayed live feed"

Capediver ... have you ever watched the behind the scenes video that Red Bull did a couple of years back as to what goes into it .... its quite amazing ...

Each camera on track is linked directly via fibre optic cable to the main presentation rig ... so they have MILES of cable out on track just for the camera feed so that it gets to the presentation truck instantaneously.

If you havent I will try and find it and post it here

Come to think of it ... back when it was Freecaster they had a rule in place that all riders had to start in their same race kit for seeding as they used to film the start the day before ... but this caused issues in a couple or races as it was clear during practice then pissing rain in the race - and this made no sense on the camera ... hahahaha

Even as a rider its easy to get blase about the difficulty of a DH track - those guys make it look so easy. You just have to relate it to your last ride where its 5x flatter and 10x more grippy and how you battled to appreciate it properly.

FWIW I thing the coverage of this event was about as good as it could be given the constraints. Its probably the trickiest track of the year to film properly.
