Hi all,

Need some advise between the Merida Big Nike XT edition 2017 or the Specailized 2016 Crave Expert. I can get both for around the same price. I just can't decide which is the better overall MTB. Any help would be appreciated?

Going alone on specs i would say that the Merida would be a better buy. I've also noticed that the Spez is a 1-10. Have you ridden that type of setup before?

Good luck with your decision  :clap:

I'm slightly partial to Specialized cos I ride one myself and I really like it. Not really a big fan of Merida, but thats just a personal preference. The Specialized is one by and Merida has two chainrings up front. So the maintenance will be less. Seems like the Merida has better brakes, but I quite like the fork on the Crave. Had a bike with a Reba and it was fantastic.

The specialized will suit you better when your skills start to develop .....I've always found their bikes to be very confidence-inspiaring

This is just my opinion tho...

The spez has lower spec/older components on everything but the fork, the reba is definitely better than the fox.

You are always going to get better value for money on the merida if you compare a spez and a merida that cost the same.

Still Im just not a merida fan so would probably take the spez personally.

I'm not a fan of Merida either but in this case I would definitely take it. The 11 speed XT groupset on the Merida is way WAY better than the mostly 10 speed Deore with XT rear derailleur being stretched beyond what it was designed for with that extender cog. That Fox Float Performance has the new FIT4 damper so it is actually a really nice fork, on par with the Reba if not better because of the 3-pos damper.

How sure are you that these are the right specs for the Merida. I found this online such suggests is has average brakes and a crap fork.

@Andrew3828

You have listed the specs for the Merida Big Nine XT, not the XT Edition.

The XT is a Carbon framed bike, higher end than the XT Edition.

If it is the XT you are looking at (i.e. Carbon) then that is better than the Specialized at a similar price.

If you meant the XT-Edition (the alloy bike), then the fork on the specialised will be the tipping point to the Specialized.

Hope this helps
