Lance Roberts Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 https://www.ecr.co.za/news-sport/news/two-cyclists-seriously-hurt-in-m4-crash/ I saw this happen this morning, the accident was on the other side of the road and the car that hit the riders came from it's lane strait over the yellow line and hit both of them from the back at about 80 - 100 km/h. I have no idea why the driver would've done that, texting, drunk, blew a tyre... But it was a HELL of a shock for my wife and myself, luckily my daughter did not see it, she was in the back of the car reading a book. Unfortunately I could not turn around to go help, the accident was on the other side of the highway, and there were loads of cars behind me. Would've had to do a U turn on a highway, and I didn't want to put my family in danger. I did see about 4 cars stop for the accident in my rear view mirror. I was on my way to ride at Holla Trials, almost gave it a miss it was such a shock to the system! Hopefully there's a good reason for this accident, but as far as I saw the car went strait into the yellow section where the riders were. There were also lots of other riders out busy training for the upcoming Amashova, so the drivers should've been more allert. Our thoughts go out to the riders for a speedy recovery.

Perhaps you should go forward as a witness to the cops?I just got home and started looking to see if they need any witnesses. Will phone the local police and find out. Problem is it happened so fast, and I was driving, that it's difficult to remember everything. I do know that the car went into the yellow lane for what looked like no reason...There were about 3 cars behind the car that hit the riders, so I'm sure they'll also be able to give witness statements. I'll try find out if they need a witness.
Sepia Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Came across this accident myself after the very same vehicle nearly took me out. Driver has been arrested and car impounded. Occupants (1 male and 4 female) were clearly not in a state of normal behavior. Male passenger was either out of his tree or on something. Peace to all involved.
Veebee Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Driver was drunk, went into the yellow lane, hit the pavement and came back onto the cyclist...Was arrested but with our wonderful justice system, doubt much will happen. Hope the cyclist heal up soon.

Still cant believe after the incident earlier this year that people still cycle on the M4 though. Got quite a reputation for drunk and reckless drivers, especially in the morning with the party animals on their way home.
