Panga Attack on Wannabee trails in Somerset West

It is with a heavy heart that we have to tell you about a panga attack by two men on ******** on Sunday morning, 25 Sept. ****** luckily escaped with a minor injury, but this, of course, means that we all have to be that much more careful and vigilant on the trails. The attack happened at the bottom of Arrie’s Arrival, between Raithby and the Water Works. The committee will discuss the way forward at a meeting tonight, but you will understand that we do not have the resources to patrol our routes. PLEASE make sure you ride in a group if you venture onto the trails.

As I was saying in another thread.  Seems to have been a pretty bad weekend.  Now this incident and also heard of an attempted bike jacking in the east of Pretoria as well.

This is so close to home....

 

It is unfortunate that a hand full of people can take away our sense of safety on our trails. 

We are always aware of the dangers but it is always a shock when it becomes a reality.

On weekends those routes are very busy and it is pity that the panga wielding idiot got away.

Just glad the fellow cyclist in question is safe.

What a k@k one. I don't think there has been an incident on the trails in a long time.

 

That could so easily have been me. I regularly ride that route by myself, even for just a quick ride after work in the evenings, and never felt unsafe. Now I have to reconsider that.

I can almost guarantee that one of the building crew has informed about the cycling activities around there. Wherever construction is taking place, some or other crime activities is soon to follow.

Friends live in raithby and it is a seriously chilled group of people there. I dont see the criminal elements coming from that community.

Heard on there facebook that two separate incidents happened this morning.

 

One was two kids and the other 3 guys. Both groups were armed with knives. The kids attacked two guys riding together.

 

Both happened towards the cell towers.

 

Luckily both cases the cyclists got away unharmed.
