the bikes zooming up and down past the guys is unnecessary - there is not only camera bikes but security bikes and neutral service bidon bikes - REALLY?!?! is that necessary? I thought that's why there is domestiques? rule 5?

seriously though - fans are getting out of hand - yes but they have always been - but the amount of vehicles on the road with the race is way overkill what I can see.

Rest day also means tomorrow we see how much time TJ will lose, he is known for having shockers on the stages following a rest day.. any bets?

TJ is a non-contender at the moment. A has been. Sadly. BMC is just wasting time and money on him.

Absolutely. . He should stick to the 7day stage races.. he just isn't good enough. He won't even be good enough to assist someone like Porte over 3 weeks.

But always fun to start betting on how much time he will lose after a rest day. He normally implodes something spectacularly.

let's see if Tom can make up the gap to the midget...

Make up and get a buffer.. [emoji106]

As much as what Nairo will need a big buffer going into the final TT, so too will Dumoulin need one with those mtn coming up soon.

Going to be interesting.

Too many big mountains at the end of the race for Tom to be a contender. He might be able to limit his losses on the first big mountain day, but not the days following that.

Was surprised to see how well he climbed - his previous attempts he faded pretty quick. He Is good on a TT bike - guess we will wait and see just how good...

Must admit i was very cheesed off when i first read this tweet

but then i read his whole race report where he goes on to admit to being the best wheelsucker on the day,

"I was with Dumoulin, and he did a really good pace. I couldn't help him too much; he was very strong today. But I knew he's a strong time trialist, so he's really good in keeping a regular pace, and I could stay with him for a long time.""In the last two kilometers, I dropped from Pinot and Dumoulin, but still I went full gas to the finish," continued Mollema, then reiterated: "It was just a real hard climb."

What did you think of yesterday's "bullying" tactics from Cannondale?

I enjoyed it, its the only impressive thing they have done so far IMHO

Having worked on a motorbike at numerous WC cycling events I can tell you that the best person to have on a motorbike is an ex-cyclist or someone who has gained lots of experience from smaller events and is very skilled on a motorcycle.

In most instances, very few cops and promo guys have any idea on how the dynamics of a bunch work and most are caught out by the speed (and tactics) of the cyclists, both on road & mtb.

From a Media point of view, the motorcycle riders is often contracted in and commandeered by his cameraman/videographer. His job is to avoid wiping out the cyclists, keeping the cameraman safe and to provide him with a means to get the best shots possible. Between the Media crews there can be some hectic competition as well, so the motorcycle riders are pushed to do things they shouldn’t be doing e.g. you might get 3 different companies doing photography and 2 companies doing video feed, each one trying to outdo the next.

It can get challenging and nerve racking out there at times.

On a big road event you’ll may have the following m/bikes:

Roving Traffic control bikes

Security bikes

Still photography

Videography

Live feed

Scenic videography & photos

Neutral service wheels & bottles

And sometimes even the race comm. or big sponsors will want to be on a bike in the thick of the action.

In all honesty, I’m fascinated there aren’t more accidents but not on the bikes, in the team cars. Have you seen how those okes duck and dive?
