I guess with the amount of wind tunnel testing being done the bikes themselves will begin to converge into similar designs (like F1 cars) with the paint jobs etc being the differentiator. Cervelo have a lot riding on tri. I still do ironman on my road bike without tri bars so for me I prefer the more traiditional looking bikes. The difference in performance for my fat ass is negligible anyway

I would be most interested to know what difference a good tri bike would make on someone like you who is used to doing it on a road bike.

The supposed benefit other than the obvious speed one is that you start the run without those muscles being exhausted.

I normally run off the bike quite comfortably, its as the run wears on that I tire out esp if its hot. That's probably more a lack of ocnditioning than the lack of a tri bike. If I compare myself to my brother in law who is a better athlete than I we have very similar half iron man times and he is around 45 minutes faster than me on a full ironman. How much of that is due to the bike I don't know. Our bike splits are normally within 10 minutes of each other and PE this year we started the run together as I swim faster.

I would think over a full ironman maybe about 15 minutes on the bike I would be faster and about 15 minutes on the run. Difficult to guage really.

but an hour here or there when you in P1175 makes no difference to me. :)

I agree 100% with all of that. I have followed your tri related posts carefully since you have been doing them and cheered for you through IM after you put your race numbers up!

There is always the hype around the differences other than speed that tri specific bikes make so that was why it would have been interesting to me.

If all goes well and still here will be back in 2017. Probably a lil slower than 2016 though. 2016 was just a dream event, everything just fell in place and had no problems at all. Going to do 2 marathons as training as well so should be better prepped for the run. We wait n see. Beginning to pick up niggles and injuries from over doing it I suspect.

6 months to go...with Kona this weekend should give me some motivation as well.
