What indoor trainer are you using.

Careful of the number chasing...

That's only if you willing to pay that extra fee, and then take the time to understand what everything means.

So far just been using zwift, but I think trainer road is quite appealing particularly cost wise. Training peaks is a bit steep.

Because I'm asking him for his email address...

And doubt that needs to be all over the thread.

Thanks for al the info so far keep it coming. I have the cycleops fluid 2 trainer have the dongle thingy and hooked it up to Trainerroad. Did my first FTP and a few "rides" after that. (That was last year) Lost intrest and my cycling went backwards , steadily getting back to training and are considering the options again. Is it possible to upload outdoor rides to Trainerroad. Does TR suggest what programs you must follow after the FTP? Will the TR program automatically adjust your training program ones you have uploaded your outdoor rides?

Sorry for hijacking the tread but i find the info on here very use full.

Training peaks is purely an analysis program, very powerful if you have a coach or if you are diligent enough to load your own program. It does not control your trainer.

TrainerRoad and Training peaks are 2 totally different programs.

On the fluid2, no software will control the trainer but you have virtual power.

Trainer road will not keep history of your outdoor workouts, and will not adjust your training program.

Your workouts will be based on your FTP and you can follow training plans, test again and adjust yourself as you improve. Very easy to work with.

Hi TrainerRoad has workouts... each between 30min and 2/3 hours if you want to.

Coach Chad, the main coach at TR combine these workouts into Trainingplans, between 6 weeks for Sweet Spot base plan (the first one you will do) and 8 weeks for most of the others.

All plans start with a FTP test, and then another at start of week 5.

At the moment TR can not accept outrides, but they are working on it.

What I've done is configured TR to output rides to both Strava and to Trainingpeaks.

Trainerroad as a software program is not intelligent enough to adjust your training programs according to your ftp test globally.

What it is capable of doing is, control your indoor trainers resistance, thus simulating a course or if you are training with ftp, the percentage of FTP according to the specific program you are following eg tabata sessions.

It is powerful enough that you can design your own workouts using time and percentage ftp.

So in summary, trainer road controls your indoor trainer, where TrainingPeaks analyses your training, you then need the know how of adjusting your training accordingly. Either by trail and error or doing a shitload of reading about power training on the internet.

There are very knowledgeable peeps out there that specilises in power training, and my suggestion is to speak to a person that has more experience than how to google or read a forum. This will focus your training efforts and you will see gains a lot quicker.

Even if you don't have a coach, output/upload your data to TP.

You can also configure Garmin to upload to it, allowing you to ingest your TrainerRoad rides and outrides into one very powerful analysis tool.

If you get everything there... then the day you do get a coach, you will have a bucket load of information for him to look at, see what you've done. a great start.

Thanks all, much appreciated. You okes sounds very dedicated, i which i could say the same.... i see the idt as something for winter months, but you people seems to use it through out the year. Fortunately as i leave my house i can go straight into the veld. So its very "safe" for cycling.

I'm stuck with limited time, so the idt allows me time during the week to get quality training time in, allowing me ride with my wife and friends on Sunday.

You will find TrainerRoad is pretty engaging, Chad throws text on the screen, talking to you... which brakes the time, you can also turn the screen landscape and watch a video or a movie.

The big benefit for me so far is, due to time constraints and work commitments, I've gone from maybe 2-3 rides per month to between 30-60min a day on the IDT late at night. My endurance on the road may not be that good, but it's certainly more training than I was getting! We'll see how long I can stick to the training schedule though, so far I haven't found boredom creeping in. (I have been exclusively on zwift thus far though)
