Athlete Info Guide is up for Durbs:

something to note - you wil not be able to access your run transition bag on race day morning, so if you do take nutrition in T2 or onto the run, it will need to sit in your bag for a long time.

It also looks like they are making us walk up and down the promenade after the race again!! Fliipen bike and streetwear bags are gong to be down south side of Suncoast and then you get to schlep everything to the other side  of the casino to get your bike and run transition bag.

Please take note of this as nothing sucks more than going to get your bike and expecting all your bags to be in one spot an then having to mission back through everyone with your bike and run bag to fetch your car keys out your streetwear bag like many people had to last year.

I did it the other way around last year, collected my street ware and bike bag first, then walked to collect run bag and bike afterwards as car was parked at suncoast and close to the bike... but still a schlep whichever way you do it

Yoh, the crickets on this thread!!!  Is everyone out training like crazy and too busy to comment? Race numbers get released and the thread is usually buzzing with hype and excitement!

After studiously going through the Race Briefing document can someone please help me understand why the 2x45Km loops-my take is its gonna be an even bigger draftfest than previous years. So what they cut out that little loop because some people can''t read a race sign now we make it easier not to get confused.

Anyhoo I am thinking of breaking out the 808's or am I Looking for trouble, then again with all the drafting and my moering down in 2016 due to that and breaking a collarbone maybe I should take my Road Bike (a bit skittish like a chipmunk on acid).Anyone of the more technical hubbers wanna give some sage advice

The Durban course lends itself to TT bike however as you point out there are going to a lot of ppl in a confined space. Take the roadie. May well end up quicker on it.

TT bike always quicker in Durbs.  As for the course change, having 2 x 45km loops rather than a 60 + 30 loop should hopefully spread the traffic out a bit better than when everyone is squeezed on the 30km loop...... will race it and report back !!

Thanks ICM, My Roadbike is an Aero Road Bike, so maybe with 808's on it will be a good bet? My main issue is the congestion think about it about 2700 athletes on a 45km route -still thinking we are heading for a problem and some of these guys are just plain stupid drafting and switching blindly.

I will be on my TT bike with 88mm rear and 50mm front

Thanks Shapey, so the 2x45 will give a better spread of athletes, yeah good point as the congestion only started previously in that 30km loop ....so maybe I was wrong in my thinking.

My thinking is, on the 30km loop you have fast guys finishing as well as the slower guys just starting the 30km loop.  Now with it being 45km, when the fast guys are finishing the 2nd 45km loop, the slower guys will be somewhere heading out on their 2nd 45 loop (so hopefully less traffic).... in theory anyway

The previous route blocked in a lot of people, so the turn-around point is now at uMdloti (still wondering how going over the bridge is not doing exactly the same to the people living in uMdloti, but anyway). They did the same for the Tour Durban. Makes the route a lot faster though.

Definitely tri bike, and def break out the deep wheels!

it'll make the photos better if nothing else.

The turn around will likely be under the bridge. This is how they did it for both the Durban Ultra and Tour Durban

I won't lie, the multiple check-ins, with multiple transitions, that silly no *tri-bars zone, and everything being very spread out sounds quite ***

I hope it's the same. But on the route map it shows going over the bridge?

And it still won't spoil the day for the 2700 people lining up :whistling:
