Proof that taxis are faster through traffic than a bike

"...taxis and motorbikes - same same."

What does that mean?

it means alot (the majority - I don't know) of them drive/ride like idiots. The motorcyclist in the video (not sure if that was you) was also riding recklessly. That was my point.

I'm by no means condoning this driving by taxis - it is extremely dangerous and I also see this type of stuff every morning on my morning commute.  I used to get really angry about it and would arrive at work all worked up.. thinking stuff like what right to they have to overtake illegally and push through traffic - we are all trying to get to work, do they not care about passengers' lives, etc...

Now I just try to remember that for every taxi on the road it means 15-20 less cars that would otherwise be using the same road as me, and I imagine how long my commute would take then!  Now this *** doesn't bother me so much.

Great post!

Are you one of those who will close a gap while stuck in traffic when you see a bike approaching in your mirror?

no

I don't believe you.

BTW, I increased the speed of the video towards the taxi crash scene on the highway, you will notice that it's normal speed again just before the hold on the blue taxi when it zooms in on it...a 1000 apologies if you do think it's reckless. Have nice Friday

The next time I see a hijacking take place, and the hijackers come driving straight past me, I will not take a picture of them, as I am not in the mood for some moron telling me that it was illegal for me to take a picture.

Since it's Friday, I want to wade in on this.

I drive on Old Pta Road about 6am towards Maxwell Drive nearly every day. At the Cell C building, the flow arrow to turn in to Cell C kicks in at 6am.  In a week, there's maybe 2 cars that want to turn. The other morning I watched as 1 taxi on my side, and 5 on the other just drove through the intersection while the turn arrow was flashing.  I get the frustration of the taxi drivers - it may only be 12 - 15seconds but surely, if they can put the turn arrow on a timer, why can't they make it for 7am - when no doubt the roads will be busier?

I really feel town planning and JRA or whoever is responsible needs to annually review the road congestion and make changes accordingly. Modderfontein - there's lights that are so stupidly synchronised - but they were done so before Modderfontein was built up - so now in the direction where traffic is heaviest, their turn to go on a green allows 4-6 cars through - and that road is used by a lot of heavy vehicle trucks - so sometimes it's one truck and one  or two other cars.

I'm not condoning taxi and other bad behaviour (mine own included) - but the authorities really can make this less frustrating IMO - possibly making everyone not want to misbehave so much.

Have you ever tried to turn right (across a big intersection) where there is no turn signals/arrows?

People driving, straight, in the opposite direction will go through after the light has changed to red, while the cars from the right crossing the intersection start moving. Unless one sits in the middle of the intersection (which is illegal) it's almost impossible to turn right. Sometimes one has to break the rules just to survive.

you're missing my point

Not missing the point - I was adding to your point that you made about the annual review of the road congestion.

See where I highlighted, in bold, in my reply...
