Mind blowing stupid...He was riding for like 12th place on the stage and he is not in GC fight.Think Yates would have lost more than another 30 seconds..maybe even a minute if he had to do it all alone.

But ja the bloods flowing and he probably just wants to get a good stage placing.

Pauwels was going for a stage result. He was close to a potential top 10 which is a huge result on a stage like that for a rider like him and that has moved him into the Top 20 overall on GC.

Top 20 on GC at a Tour is a small increase in salary come negotiation time.

How many minutes would you estimate Louis needs over Yates going into the TT?

He will need to do something big today to distance Yates to get a buffer for the TT.

If you read my article on why they going faster or as fast there a lot of answers in there for you but if we take it from a different angle on Contador alone he always gets better and goes stronger as a Tour gets deeper into the weeks. He responds vey well to load and volume. If you see how he has gone over the last 2.5 weeks he has actually gotten better and better. so this may mean he he came in well under done and battled in the beginning.

He also hasn't done much over the last few days and could of recovered well into these 2 days and it is also well known he goes very well in the Alps. he always has over the last forever years.

Again, it was a huge once off effort, much like Aru wins, and AC paid for it later towards the end but Contador is well known also for these type of efforts and attacks go for broke.

Since he responds so well to the fatigue and load, won't it make sense for his training team send him into a GT slightly fatigued then?

To give him that extra bit in the first week where he did not really feature this year?

Or is the accumulative fatigue and stress of a GT to great to try something like that?

Speaking of salaries, it probably pays DDD if Meintjes doesn't win the White jersey this year, otherwise they will need to pay him more if the rumours are true that they are courting his signature for next season.... so another incentive for Pauwels to reel him in for Yates... ( Conspiracy theory alert)

He was vocal about not going into this Tour with fatigue and coming in fresh. was Trek's idea etc and clearly it has not worked. well I don't think it has. While a win is a push for him I do believe he should be on the podium, he is still that good.

But this approach hasn't worked. Only reason I say that is cause it has been complete opposite of what has been done in past and seeing how he has progressed this Tour its evident.

He is top 10 at the Tour and a PT team leader for GC so his salary is anything but small at the moment. For him and I am guessing here, he is on about 500-600k Euro.

I don't see him going to DDD at all unless he has a team surrounding him completely for the Tour. This means that Cav will either have to:

Not go to the Tour.

Go alone and fend for himself with no support.

Depending how long Deloitte sponsorship is as they paid for the Cav combo to join team.

Until the above happen or get sorted Louis I really do not see going there. Maybe if the money is stupid good but still even then. He left due to circumstances and there are a good few teams wanting his signature for next year that overall as a GC Tour team offer more support.

My 2c.

Nice final day in the mountains.

Will we see any movement in the GC standings, very likely! Question is, who is going to crack? And how much time will they lose...?

Im almost sure Kittel saw tomorrows stage profile on the spare bike and thought - no way - not after today Im outta here.

Would HATE to be a sprinter / shocking climbing this deep into a Tour over these 2 days.

Saw on one of GCN videos that his disc brake sprinting bike is over 8kg...guess he will use his rim brake backup bike today... ^_^
