Beat me to the cut-n-paste from the Cycle Events newsletter...

Less than a month remains till the race gun goes off for South Africa’s very first L’Étape cycling challenge, so make sure you enter.

Fast facts:

We’re pleased to announce 2010 Tour de France winner Andy Schleck is now L’Étape South Africa’s official ambassador. As such, cyclists will have the opportunity to test their mettle against this superstar.

Participants will also be riding against a number of South African cycling

heavyweights, including Doug Ryder (Team Dimension Data Principal).

The overall male and female winners will receive an all-expenses paid trip to compete in the 2017 L’Étape du Tour in France.

If you enter now, you stand a chance to win a limited edition L’Étape cycling jersey.

Entries close 19 March and spaces are highly limited, so enter now to avoid the disappointment of missing out.

Do you have what it takes to ride like a Tour legend?

Test my mettle against Andy.. I wouldn't even want to stand close to him..of fear of looking obese next to him..skin and bone that one.

It's actually quite disappointing to see the lack of (quality) information, compared to the websites from the other L'Etape events.

It does seem like a half hearted attempt hey

I was expecting to see the usual names on the start list - I don't recognise any of them.

That said, entries only close next weekend.

It's actually rather cool that he is coming out.

Froome was the ambassador for the Aussie event in December - and his name shows in the results... but in last place. So you never know.

I like the bit about space being highly limited... just over 20% full (of their limit of 5000).

Entries seem a bit low with a week to go ?

Did I lose 3 weeks somewhere

According to Gerald only about 20% of the entries have been sold (about 1000 of the 5000 available).

Entries close on the 19th (just over a week to go)

Or am I the one that's confused ? (which is very possible)

Two endurance events on one weekend, plus a fairly steep entry fee.

I wonder how many entries the MalutiD90 has attracted? Guess we'll find out when they publish their start times (assuming they do the same as 2016).

I'm a bit confused about this whole competition. It says it's the opportunity for amateur riders to compete for the TdF jerseys (and the prize), but why is there an elite field then? Or don't they qualify for the prizes?

One of my posts above, I mentioned how little (quality) information is showing on their website. You make a valid point - pros aren't amateurs, so technically shouldn't be in line to compete if they refer to amateurs.

That said... I don't see any of the big names in the men's elite/U23 category - never crossed my mind to check for their names. There are a few familiar names, but none from the current pro teams. It also includes a few Vets, including one serial cheat (will have to watch the short cuts).

So you had a bit of a panic attack ???

You looking at this the wrong way round.

Few entries mean that you have a much better chance of getting a podium.

I think Gerald said that only 7 Elite ladies have entered so you'll just have to beat (literally if need be) 5 of them and BOOM !!!!

**OK don't beat anybody **
