‘...one thing I like about Nibali's win today is if you look through his record, he has a long history of getting up there in one day races. proof that you don't have to be a total Tour specialist in modern cycling, whatever conventional wisdom says. shows respect for whole calendar...’

Nibs must also be thankful to his team, at the point he jumped off the front, the remaining team riders blocked out the whole front of what was left of the peleton, which gave him those vital seconds... well coordinated and great execution! Fantastic to see!!

So, obvious question:

Why don't more teams do it in the Grand Tours? Is it difficult to coordinate? Frowned upon?

Seems like an obvious way to gain those vital few seconds to get away off the front for a GC contender.

They probably try it, but get frustrated in doing so by other teams that are expecting it. Nibali had the element of surprise in his favour yesterday - no one was expecting him or his team to make a move like that.

Lots being said about Cav because of the luck he is having...the man is only 32..and believe me if you a sprinter and you still in front in MSR after 290km there is absolutely nothing wrong with the body..absolutely nothing!!!Only about 3 other pure sprinters in the world left with him in front with only Ewan remotely in his league..

Thing about Cav is you can bet on it he is going to make his legs do the talking and win big soon..like always.

Sad to see some of the crap people are getting up to noe just because they font like him.

All riders have bad patches..this one is very baf because of the nature of some of the crashes.

People should remember that he is a accomplished track rider and a brilliant bike handler..

Hope to see him go big soon..DD needs it big time right now.

Ja I know my post was a bit fence sitty, wasn't it. However I am firmly in the 'this is a run of rotten luck' camp. You don't win as much as Cav does without being a really really tough SOB on the bike. Cav has been amazing at DD and I think it stretches beyond just winning races. G speaks highly of his cycling intelligence and his love of sharing this knowledge. I would love to see him win a few more races and set the new stage win mark at the TdF! He just needs to get past this nasty rotten run of luck.

Yes much like Valverde..they both unique riders that you either love or hate. But they also both pure allround bike racers..not a lot of them around right now.
