Mainly ride on the Spruit and Northern Farms but want to ride some road races and at the Cradle.

So now looking to buy a road bike, debating wether to buy an aluminum frame or spend the extra cash and go for a composite frame.

I have looked at the Specialized Allez and the Roubaix and read a few reviews and leaning towards the Allez also looked at the Giant TCR and the Propel today.

Any help or advice welcome.

What is your budget?

New or used

I ride a Propel nut I have a thing for aero bikes but always wonder about the TCR when it comes to climbing.

Thanks for the replies looking around R30k and new preferably.

Looked at the Giant again and leaning towards the 2017 model of the TCR,Hennie VR I looked at the Cannondale today in Durban was great but a little pricier than the Giant.

Zatek LBS today said they felt for what I'm looking oday that the TCR is an easier ride than the Propel both good bikes according to them.

for 30K you will get the 2017 TCR with 105. Good bike.

Propel is nice. Not a hard ride by any means. I ride a 2016 Propel Adv 0 and don't ever find the bike hard or uncomfortable.

Spend the extra cash and go for a composite frame. I also rode MTB and then got a alu frame Merida upgraded to a TCR then a Venge now the Tarmac. Rather spend the little extra now you wont be sorry. Any one of those bikes are great.

Have a look at Swift (swiftcarbon.com) - the Ultravox RS1 is a great bike - there's a 105 bike for R35k (I know it's R5k above your budget, but it's worth it). I have the Ultravox TI (the level above the RS1). Have ridden both, and there really isn't any difference.

Best bike I've ever ridden.

Thanks Grogs will have a look at the Swift as well.

It is a little bit more than I planned but will see what there is in Joburg when I get home.

Thanks to everyone for all the help and ideas.
