Stanford to Franschhoek

Hi guys,

I need to do a MTB training ride from Stanford to Franschhoek over the holidays. Gravel preferred over tar. Any suggestions of back roads will be appreciated.

what is the distance on that ?

 

I looked into doing this for long distance training.

110km by road, so expect there and thereabouts with the backroads

@#1 You can add on Highland pass after Karwyderskraal...and just after Houhoek there's a river road that takes you back  to Botrivier Avoiding the tar and onto the vanderstell pass.

113km, 1650m

Managed to do almost all on gravel (using road shoulders where possible) so the only tar was a bit through hermanus, bot rivier and franschhoek pass.

Route:

Stanford, Hermanus, up hemel & aarde using the valey trails (red route), T-junctions with karwyderskraal road, bot rivier (can go around left or right, i chose right), van der stel pass until it becomes tar, then just after hook a right onto gravel until, follow board to FH, tjunctions with villiers road at teewaterkloof, franschhoek pass. Amazing ride and start to new year!
