The sun when I went to work this morning.

Some of the fynbos remnants on my bakkie.

As an aside, my neighbor found 4 protea seeds on his lawn today, blown all the way from the mountain. He has planted them. Holding thumbs.

The whole Peninsula seems to be smoking today - was in Noordhoek earlier and now in the boerie gordyn - very little wind too which is no doubt a good thing after yesterday which was extreme...

fire broken out above arabella on the r44.

struggling to contain.

Can't help but think that this is another careless stompie thrown away or broken beer/wine bottle. This wind is rather hectic, and the worst is still to come later in the week/weekend.

Update: I see much less smoke in the valley. Hope we are winning here.

I live in Melkbos and we had smoke over here this morning. Does seem to be less now. Here's hoping...

Ok, so things are looking up. Fire is now very well contained, as in almost out.

There is a tiny spot way on the top of the mtn burning. Hopefully this will die out.

As for Lourensford... things are looking good for the night.

from the somerset west FB page:

"Neighbourhood Watches, Gordons Bay Neighbourhood Watch Strand Neighbourhood Watch& Somerset West Neighbourhood Watch have today fed 615 people all from donations received from our communities & businesses. We have enough food for the next 3 days to feed the same so we are saying NO further DONATIONS please for now. If the fire continues after Friday we will need to call on you again. I've been out & about today, including to Lourensford & I can't begin to express how overwhelmed I've felt by the very obvious love, genoristy both in goods time & effort the combined communities have shown to the fire crews. Thank you on behalf of those guys still fighting the fires. We will give a fire update later when the evaluation is clearer."

yippeeeeee!!! not  breath of wind !!! with the guys working through the night, damping and making sure no hotspots, this thing looks to be over ................. for Lourensford at least. The little itty bit of fire right on the top is still a worry, as it can easily move over into Jonkers.

If the wind stays away we are in with a real chance the fire may die tomorrow morning. Either that or the 35 degree heat ...

NHW radio all quiet.
