You're welcome. I've done a few of these starting in 2012 and I really am very stoked about this one. Let's hope I don't break my bike this year or crack the frame.

Did they confirm the total climb on the routes too?

36km - 1400m

54km - 2300m

Also signed up and looking forward to riding the trails

36 = 850m

54 = 1300m ascent

The weather today was at its best, the route had its challenges and what they took away in total climb they added to the length.

Rode nearer to the back with my wife and saw two big falls and a couple of mechanical breaks too. But all in all a fun day on the trails.

ps the mosbolletjies was such a treat

I have always liked this ride, but today I was in awe. The sheer effort that must have went into building that single track next to the dam is highly appreciated. For me this was a very humbling ride, for one I had an off day with no power, but mostly because of the scenery. Riding it on a day like today can give you tears of joy.

Only thing I would have changed was to let the long route go down the old trail on the Franschoek side of the dam like we always did, but still I am very happy with how it was.

the stats were a bit off...  firstly the (36km) ride was just over 40km and the ascent was about 550m.  (except people who used their phone app, the ascent could have been anything)

the best moment of the race was this guy behind me shouting to come past while he could see i'm taking it easy behind someone else, and when he got his chance to pass, he faceplanted himself!  i tried not to laugh too hard and just carried on past the scene.

was a nice race overall, the scenery was awesome, as Rouxenator's photos show.

forgot to say - the branded water bottle and t shirt was a nice touch (and unexpected) at the end.

 Missed that one... maybe they ran out of t-shirts before we got there (as they also ran out of coke at some of the water points) Not to worried as it is always a challenge to plan for those things and luckily I am just as happy with cold water and of course the food made up for it.

What was a nice touch was the number of places where you could go on the wrong route where they had those "x" to indicate it is NOT the right way, but assume you talking about more there after the halfway mark

Update on the injured rider: We had to call an Air Ambulance to evacuate a rider with a possible spinal injury. He fell in a really awkward spot and we did not want to risk further injury by stretchering him out.

The gentleman spent the night in hospital, but has been discharged this morning. Bruised, sore and with a few stitches, but luckily no serious injury. His son will pick up his bike from me later today.

I enjoyed the ride - started with non seeded riders because of some PPA bureaucracy  with my mate's board and so the new and exciting looking single track near the start was a traffic jam which was unfortunate. Otherwise a fun and fast and very scenic route.

One or two places where there was suddenly a tricky piece of riding with a really dangerous edge to it that I wouldn't have liked to ride as even more of a beginner than I am - maybe a couple of signs indicating "danger" might have been in order?

Didn't get the T shirt though - bah!
