After all the critisism levelled at track, a new Hector Norris Park Track Forum has been established. The forum will be responsible for the running of the winter track league at HNP, details of which are below. I would like to invite all Hubbbers and their frineds and families to join us to race, either on their road bikes or on track bikes, or just to watch. I will be more than happy to help anyone out at these events. PLEASE SUPPORT US so as to raise the level of track in SA.

We have obtained some sponsors, but are continually looking for more. If anyone is interested or knows of any potential sponsrs, please contact me.

Any constructive advice is most welcome.

Getting back on track this winter<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

How are you going to feed your hunger for racing this winter and at the same time do some serious training towards the spring and summer racing season? The answer is getting on your bike and racing track.

Hector Norris Park is hosting a  Winter Track League catering for all riders, new and old, young and the young at heart. The league will run from Saturday the 24th of May to August 2008 at Hector Norris Park. Racing will run from 2pm to 4pm, and will include short sharp races to keep riders in peak condition during the winter and spectators entertained. Points will be accumulated and at the end of the league trophies and prizes will be awarded to the podium places in each category.

This is the perfect opportunity for those cyclists who have heard about or seen track racing to give it a go, particularly the younger riders. A lot of emphasis will be placed on u/14, u/16 and Junior riders, showing them the ropes and giving them coaching and racing feedback. All riders irrespective of age and ability are encouraged to race. If you don?t have a track bike, there are bikes to use and race, free of charge. These bikes have recently been extensively serviced and are in fit and proper race condition. Just bring your own pedals along. There is a trophy and cash prize up for grabs for the best new track rider and road bike category rider at the end of the league. Madison training and coaching will be given to all riders at each league meeting, with the aim being to have as many teams race the 100 lap Madison at the end of the season.

The Winter League provides the perfect opportunity to race and train in a safe and warm winter environment, allowing riders to target those aspects of their training and racing usually neglected in the winter months. Come spring you will sprinting like Boonen and McEwan, and attacking like O?Grady and Cancellara.

Fantastic Gary, wish I was up north to be part of this league Cry

The format hides the amount of admin and organisation going into each event and the series as a whole. Well done, this is what is needed in each and every province. Thumbs%20Up

Since GreyOwl organised the backing of a prospective sponsor for his planned series/events could this not be the ideal opportunity to let bygones be bygones and get him on board along with his backer in the interests of track cycling.

Damn I hope the CSA and other provinces are taking notes.

Well done and good luck!!

Excellent stuff Gary. I will be there for the whole league.Big%20smile

...even though I know I'll get mashed by the Elites (Cat4) but thrown out of Cat2...Ouch

Anyone got any "get younger" pills?Shocked

Gary, can you send this through to Club100 (and probably all the other clubs)? - the more people that know about it, the better. I know Club100 wants to get more ppl on the track and this seems like a good way to go about it

Well done Gary

Please inform who your forum is, I think it is an ideal starting point for guys such as Greyowl and Chunky to get involved with you guys.

The Hector Norris Track Forum comprises new and old personalities.

The Chairmen is Dr Noel Ziady and the other members are Gary Swinson (of Liqui Moly) Martin van Wyk, Dan Chait,Gadi Chait, Dave Street, Gary Rabie Gail Heuval, Grenville and Diane Scullard. Everyone on the forum has put aside thier differences for the benefit of track as a whole. Other parties should do the same.

Anyone wishing to contribute is welcome to contact me. We have monthly meetings and guest are invited to contribute.

All I ask for is constructive advice/opinions and anyone who wishes to comment negatively is welcome to do so, as long as they have thrown their hat into the ring and contributed to this new venture.

The resurgence of track is dependant on all riders interested or associated with track coming down and racing. This is the only way we will riase the profile of track. We have put together a superb event. Lets hope we get the support to make it worthwhile.

Thanks for all the positive feedback.

See ya'all at the track.

ewep I have an old frame that is 52cm. You are welcome to it. You would just have to build it up. There are however track bikes there for you to use. Just arrive early enough to get one your size and bring your own pedals and helmet.

Let me know if you want the frame.

Cheers
