Buying MTB Shoes - First Time

Did look on CWC. They have one pair for an R1000 but don't like the colour scheme. Want to get a Giro pair, so will wait for future specials on them. Will keep an eye on the classified section too. Do not mind getting secondhand pedals.

Just watch out for VAT as that 1k could easily become 1.5k with taxes and dhl (R400 I think?)

You should be able to snag a pair of Shimamo SPD m520s for about R200 second hand. They come up often and are bullet proof - rode with a pair for nearly 10 yeara on and off. Just check they turn smoothly and you are golden!

Sold my SPD M520s for R250 end-December last year. Though I would never use them.

Will check that, thanks.

Spds are the way to go! Get a set of shimano 520s or 540s. Is recommend trying a pair of shoes on. For r1000 you can get a pair that fits and support a local business at the same time. The advantages of flats don't out way the fact that you gotta wear shin guards! I know Myles loves flats, but ask him whAt he rides on his road bike and why.

I use flats on my roadie. ;)

For now. Main reason I'd be fine with cleats on a roadie is due to the lack of technicality on the road. And if I were a dirt roadie I'd probably consider spds as well.

André, fwiw there are few things worse than bad fitting shoes. Used to have some adidas full carbon cleats that were super stiff but too narrow for me. Killed my feet properly and I went back to my 8 year old spaz jobs.

If you want cleats then cool. Either way you're looking at shoes and pedals cos your existing setup is, frankly, shaite

Haha.

I will definitely buy local and make sure that it fits me perfectly before taking it.

Also heard, a super stiff shoe is good to get.

Well, I am not going to argue with that statement!  :D

Massive thanks to Vetseun for the SPD pedals. Picked it up today and cannot wait to install them later today.

Borrowed a pair of old Specialized shoes from a friend and hopefully, I can go for a test ride tomorrow.

Also, thanks for the cleats!

Luckily not, haven't got time riding with clips due to my illness. Did call my doctor to check if I may ride last Saturday and he said rather not. Will try this weekend again.

Those look like Ryder pedals so the screw may be on the inside of the clip on the spring side. They will have a + and a -. + = more tension.

Must say, this isn't my first time riding with cleats and with the current setting it is set now I want to its stay (Went for a quick spin down my road). Will adjust according to when riding trails if needed, thanks.
