What is the PPA doing?

Yep attended AGM. Always been impressed as everything is very transparent. All financials available for everyone to peruse. Which is why I tend to find the conspiracy theorists so funny. Their comments are normally based on hearsay having never attended an AGM in their life.

Well said. Although I have to admit to missing it this year. Life got in the way. :)

PPA financials are quite transparent. But they paints half a picture - the biggest source of income is the CTCT - so really for one (members and the committee) to understand the financials in full one need to understand CTCT financials in order to understand from where the majority of the money comes from.

CTCT may included these event: Cape Town cycle tour, MTB Challenge, Stellenbosh cycle tour DC and and even Race tec possibly some other too.

Surely any good business should reinvest into the profitable areas - the committee needs to be very mindful of the CTCT income / expense statement and the CTCT partners / sponsors to ensure money is direct correctly to sustain profitability.

How would you rate their financial competency compared to CSA's?

Whatever else they did recently, I was reminded this morning that it was their advocacy, in part at least, that opened the absolutely magnificent mtb route from Rhodes Memorial to Constantia Neck. Without the PPA and the weight they threw behind the negotiations with SANParks, Kirstenbosch and the City Of Cape Town, I don't think it would have happened. The ride is a jewel, especially on a day like today!

Its does not matter as CSA is with all due respect bankrupt. But would they be bankrupt if they also got in excess of let 5 million from instead of CTCT and PPA trust but SARS. If SARS were still funding sports would our National team (not only cycling) need to be self funding to put on the National jersey? In essence to represent the country you are paying another form of tax. Nelson Mandela understood the power of sport to build a nation but does the current corrupt government?

If PPA were not getting this injection from the CTCT and PPA trust (only source of funding CTCT) they no doubt they may well find themselves bankrupt too! Its easy to be a trust fund baby - just saying!

I'm struggling to understand your issue here.

They have a large event that generates most of their revenue, they need to diversify.... many companies have hinge one big contract, event, client etc.

Not sure how that makes them idiots.

CSA did have funding and they blew it.

Not sure where I said they were Idiots - but you chosen this term maybe you know more than me.

PPA are merely a beneficially of a large event that generates most of the revenue. If your statement were true then PPA financials would included CTCT - but unfortunately it is not. Thus the reason why I stated you only seeing half the picture.

Perhaps you didn't use the word "idiots" but your long history and rhetoric on them makes me believe that you aren't a fan, I don't think I'm wrong.

I'm not sure what statement of mine you are referring too, I didn't say they are amazing at accounting, all I actually wanted to know was if you thought their financial competency was superior to that of CSA's?

I am very far from being a PPA loyalist, so please don't confuse me for one.

Please look at the Cape Town cycle tour page - the 2nd tear of sponsorship - Principal right sponsor you will notice - City of Cape Town. I suspect there value of sponsorship is over 2million - but having the CTCT financial would help understand this - thus the calling for them.

We have all seen the bike paths been built by the City of Cape Town / Western Cape government. We all know how useless a lot of these bike paths are - there threads on the hub on this. Even the CEO letter to the PPA members recently mentioned he had noticed the well below standard bike lane been built in the Constantia area. My belief is these bike paths, given some run towards “Tokai Forest,” are designed for all cyclist even MTB cyclist.

The question is how much time is PPA giving to ensure these bike paths are built correctly? The City indirectly provided funding to PPA though the CTCT - surely a good partnership would mean the PPA would provided some expertise on making sure the City does not wast money on building useless bike lane?

You have noted how much PPA has been involved win the MTB trail - one would hope that they would be substantially / infinitely more involved with the bike paths as they for all cyclist. Added to that the City of Cape Town may well provided substantially funding (I don't know what it is) indirectly to PPA through the Cape Town (road) cycle tour.

PPA's is far superior but then again from its inception (PPA/Argus) it has

shown SACF and then CSA the middle finger wrt levies per rider.

ironically PPA are now paying levies for their league events even though

they dont have to (court case) but not for the CT Cycle Tour. so, many 'little'

event organisers all over the country pay over their levies like good citizens.

some dont and CSA dont have the manpower to collect.

there must be a millions of uncollected levies out there- 40 years of the

Argus - do the sums.

But the CTCT is there to run events to make as much money as possible for its charities. The PPA is the cycling awareness vibe and they should do it, not CTCT.

There is active participation for all bike lane proposals, its just not well announced nor attended. Like there are requests and plans in place to re do the Woodstock bike lane.

The city sponsorship may not be cash at all, could be staff time planning and on the day.

the City (WC Goverment to be exact) sponsorship is cash.

I don't dispute the City's sponsorship maybe ZERO rands - that's why I stated the value. From not paying for road police etc - but it has a value which will be in the CTCT books. But PPA members don't know what these books look like / probably some of the committee too. Thus the full picture is not presented at the AGM.
