I am looking at purchasing a decent mtb and my 2 bikes in mind are:

2017 Scott spark 930(29inch)

Or

2017 specialized camber comp carbon (29inch)

Let me know your thoughts and recommendations

Thanks !

Had just this discussion via PM yesterday. The camber takes it for me. Wider, stronger wheels, dropper post as standard, slightly cheaper depending on source. The forks are mostly equal, and though the 34 on the scott is burlier, you're not going to notice a difference in stiffness over the frankly superb RS Revelation RC3.

If the pricing were similar and the Scott had a dropper and wider wheels, it'd be a more fair contest. At the moment though, at that level, the Spaz takes it.

My instincts are whispering Camber, but this is the Hub (Welcome  )...

Here, you must first paste links or pics or preferably both, in order to get a wise response.

Also, telling us why you need said bike would help, i.e. do you intend to ride more marathon style, XCO, trail etc.

Agree with what everyone says here, camber comp carbon, except I would look around for a 2016 model.

Better bike imo and should be cheaper.

Exactly the SAME bike, from a frame perspective, AFAIK.  Different spec for the new model year, but that's Spez for you.

I would go Spez CAmber  (2016 or 2017) for the following reasons:

1. nice wide wheels

2. dropper post + internal cabling

3. bulletproof sram 1 x 11

4. swat box - REALLY USEFUL

5. brilliant geometry that makes YOU look good

6. 120mm front and rear sus

7. "quiver" bike - it can really do EVERYTHING.

PS: if you can wait until september-ish, the 2017 cambers should go on special (usu about 25% off list).  If you can't, bargain hard.

Lastly, the 2018 camber could be "new", ie have a new frame but, who knows, as spez appears to be slowing down new frame releases.?

Disclaimer: i own a 2016 camber comp carbon.

I have a Alu Camber (with dropper) and really enjoy it, but if I were to buy a new bike tomorrow it would be the Scott.

Purely because of the geometry (it's longer and lower, which suits my short legs).

So don't overlook that element when making choices...

FWIW the Scott is also 120mm f/r & also has great geo and GX 1x11

You forgot a critical point:

2016 Camber = mini-Brain

2017 Camber = no mini-Brain

Nino made me look as Scott with new eyes; but the Spaz is better value in this contest; also more versatile in where it is happy than the Scott.

I don't think the Camber Comp got the brain in 2016 - It was the higher end models

No brain on comp carbon.  Only on expert and s-works, IIRC (sorry, too lazy to google).

BTW, of the 2017's, the PRO is a really nice spec (but $$$, of course).
