I am changing to 32 oval front and 11-46 cassette.XT 8000 medium derailleur.I have a new 116 link Shimano 901HG XTR chain.Would I need more links and how is this calculated? With Mtb always extra costs:)

No worries.

It's pretty easy, really - add the extra teeth up (46-42 = 4; 34-32 = 2) and divide by 2, as each link accommodates 2 teeth

For anyone else who wanted to know if the GX 1 x 11 will work with the 11-46 Sunrace cassette on a full suspension bike.

I can now confirm it does.

The shifting is smooth (even after the mechanic told me the RD is NOT designed for it and going to the 46T will be slow and a struggle)

I was worried that when you have it on the 46T and the suspension activates it will break the RD so I deflated the shock and tested it. 100%

Then I removed the shock from the main attachment and let the suspension go down ALL the way and there was still space in the RD before it would reach the limit. (not in video)

I had to add 1 link to the chain (one inner and outer) from the 11-42 to the 11-46

Here are some pics and video

So I fitted a 11-46 Sunrace cassette to my wife's bike last night (2016 Anthem 27.5) which has a M8000 derailleur (XT) (not quite sure if long or medium), and now I get that the top pulley wheel rubs on the 46T ring.

My question(s):

  • How do I check if she has a long or medium (hopefully not short) cage?
  • Is there any other adjustment required on the derailleur itself?
  • Can the mount type of the derailleur influence max cog compatibility at all?

Adjust the B-tension screw on the RD. Think it’s the middle screw on the RD, just google it to make sure. You will see the Pulley getting more clearance.

Did this conversion also but opted for the Shimano Long Cage derailleur. With the long cage derailleur you need a slightly longer chain.

I'm running a Sram Nx derailer with Sunrace 11-46 cassette with Sram 32 NW chainring ,on my hardtail. Using the standard 116 link chain, no problem with shifting or jumping of chain from the chainring. Chainslap is also non existent.

Had to adjust the B screw quite a bit to get the necessary +- 6mm gap between the cassette and derailer when in the 46.

Very happy with this setup.

Hi guys. So I might seem like a knob with this question but any help works.

I looking at up grading to an 11 x 1.

I'm running a 34t chain ring at the moment

The RD is a shimano deore. The specs is a sgs cage. Long cage.

Will this work with an 11 speed sunrace 11/46?

Has anyone tried the 11-50 sunrace with a GX derailleur?

Currently have the 11-46, which as stated by all works well.

Yes. Sunrace made this casette because it just fits in at the upper limit of all popular 11 speed derailleurs. Except short cage Shimano. I think. And niche ones like for DH bikes.

Depending what setup you are upgrading from, you may need to adjust your chain length. And reams of other things. Chainline. That B-tension screw thing.
