Cheap dropper posts?

Thanks for the feedback. The cartridges are R459 so that is pretty reasonable. If I can clean out the seals and stop the stanchion from wearing then that is the key.

I did not mention, the cartridge also has seals of its own to protect the internals of the cartridge. So the dirt needs to get past two sets of seals to damage the internals of the cartridge.

Yes, clean what you can from time to time to make the cartridge last as long as possible.

Does anyone own or has anyone had experience with the Brand X dropper from CRC? They're currently available at a tempting price but I'm unsure if it's worth it, given warranty issues might be a hack fest (can't be discounted with droppers) and servicing is not possible/also a hack. But then at the current asking price, maybe those things don't matter that much...

My novice 2c worth...I got a good brand new second hand EX5 TREK with a Brand X dropper post with internal cabling and for me it works a damn charm....

The older ones aren't serviceable - apparently the new ones are - but my dig was more at the Forca and Satori which are disposable. Same goes for the Giant.

I have an issue with things that are designed to be thrown in the bin.

Giant are serviceable. New cartridge kit cost me R600.

Most cartridges can be re-pressurized though for minimal cost.

Brand X are the same droppers as Lyne... but yes, reviews on them are also excellent.

A new cartridge is not a service. You need to replace wiper seals or the stanchion will wear out, at which point you throw it in the bin.

Cleaning the wiper is not enough.

You can get service kits for the Lyne posts with bushings, keys and wipers, and also new stanchion tubes and cartridges.

If this is available for any other post in this price range I haven't found out yet.

This must be for the external Rapide seatpost. The internal routed doesn't have this. The service kit is looking like a Tmars service kit from eBay. I did not like that design. I hope Rapide did it better.

They look pretty similar to a few brands that I can see. Almost if some bits of the Tmars was copied.

Best option is the metal guides even on a Tmars these work well over the plastic.

I'd like to know if the new Rapide External dropper is the same as the Lyne External V2...

Trying to compare the service kits online, but it isn't conclusive.

Also looking at a new cheap decent dropper.

Had a Lyne on the previous bike. Was faultless. Preferred it to any other dropper I've used (reverb, KS, spez, giant)

Looking now at trying out the Rapide ones.

R1999 for a 150mm 30.9 post. (versus the R2899 Lyne dropper with the same specs - also no stock atm)

Any known objections?

Else I'll have to let you know how it goes.
