Gatorskins for Roadbike

I use Gatorskins 23 front and 25 rear as my training tires. Gives me great mileage and I didn't find them having any sidewall issues. Reasonably puncture resistant. Slightly heavier than the 4000's

Use the 4000 II tires (23 front and 25 rear) when I do DC. Lighter and never had a puncture with mine yet. 2 DC's and some shorter training rides before.

That's pretty much how I roll too

No problems

I find this whole debate odd.

Why did you post in your first thread if a gatorskin is a good option?

Your second thread you state you bought it and it failed.

Haven't heard of a gatorskin that has failed before, maybe you were just bad luck.

Im just concerned your next thread will be that bikeshop ABC doesn't want to do a warranty claim.

Hi guys,

Does anyone know how this kind of damage happens to a tyre?

It's not necessarily a new tyre but its in reasonably good shape apart from this chunk that's somehow been taken out of it so its a shame that the rest of the tyre has to go to waste.

When did you notice the damage?

And were there any 'stand out' events just prior to noticing the damage?

Just noticed it when taking my bicycle out the car. No real stand out events.

I have for the last 10 years only used conti"s .... mainly Gators .

Last week I bought 2 Spez Turbo Pro 700x26 tyres .... what a difference .

They roll sooooo much better .

Bye bye Conti from me...

And the retail price of the Spez tyres is cheaper than the normal price of Conti .

Well to state the obvious, a pretty significant issue. Beats me as to root-cause. Failure of adhesive layer? Hot spot? Cooked in the car in one spot? Manufacturing issue?

Let's here what the Hub has to say.....?
