Although you seem keen on bottles, look for the thread about the new waist packs with large bladders up to 2L.

That should sort your problem out

Same problem as a back pack. 15 to 18 hours per day on the bike I don't want any un-necessary kit on my body. Better to let the bike take the strain.

Think I figured an answer - looks like I may be able to get an Amazon DE order delivered to the B&B near the start. Thanks for input anyhow guys. Did think these were a long shot here in SA - theres only about 2 or 3 makes even in Europe.

Just keep in mind that a larger bottle is more likely to fall out.

Should not have that problem with a good quality bottle holder.  Bought my 950 ml bottle soon after I got here in Germany and in two years never had an issue with bottles falling out.

I use an ordinary PET bottle with a "sport" cap. 1 litre.

Got them from the local packaging place for less than R10.

The do need a velcro strap to hold them in place if the road is bumpy.

Used them on the Dash without hassles.

Road bike for 4,000km - no way my back will survive a rucksack for that duration

Now there's a real important nugget of information that'll help people answer your real question! Maybe also consider a side entry bottle cage for bottles of that size...

I believe there are empty and nutritional calories (OK good and bad)

But they are still calories and some give more energy than others, but bottom line of they are not used the effect is the same.

Some light reading. https://thescienceofnutrition.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/good-calories-bad-calories-a-critical-review/

Was going to say I'm pretty sure the water in those bottles will have almost no calories, but johannrissik makes a point - I hadn't considered the PET potential ...

1L bottles, with screw on top for R24 each at Decathlon, opening in Greenstone Mall tomorrow.

Cheaper than a 1 Litre Coke bottle
